I am in the "don't eff with it, just finish it". You think it will take little to get it on the road with jambs etc. painted, but there will be a lot more back-and-forth than just getting it done all at once. This is coming from a guy who has had too many "driving projects". Often never finishing them as a result!

If you are bored stiff with your daily driver, just buy a newer model ragtop (i.e. a 2005 Mustang) and beat it around til next spring, selling it for essentially the same money. I definitely would go keep it simple with that replacement car (not a 944!) so you don't take away resources (time!) from the camaro.

late 60's camaro was the car I always wished I had. then later on, the car I wished I had never sold.

Yes, and yes... I loved my 944 but had to sell it because just didn't have the time/money to keep it going... the guy who bought it was thrilled... one mans treasure is another's poison.

Well might get my fix tuesday gonna get it on the ground and pull it out of the shop so I can clean the shop up. I may tack it down the drive way and back just to make sure it all works. :D. No seat or windshield though.

Probably just finish it. I will probably be priming in a few weeks anyhow so mine as well just finish it.

Zeke 03-25-2013 12:34 PM

You should fit it all together before taking it back apart for painting. PITA, but that's the way to go about it. So, if you get in a few days of driving, all the better. At least you'll uncover all the bugs. However, I wouldn't put the complete interior in it, but you might get away with installing the top.

Milt yeah I am coming to terms with that and your right it is the right way to do it.
I guess I just have to deal with the fact I probably wont have a car to drive for another 3-4 months. but thats ok. I kind of miss just hoping into the porsche and going though I dont miss the cost of my obsesion.

Milt,

I think I am all done with cars for a bit. Not that I dont enjoy working on it I just am having a shift In Priority's. I have 4 acres on a lake up north that was my moms and part of my grandpas 80 acres waay back when. I met with the folks today doing the perk test and got quotes to build a septic for a small house we want to build up there. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1365466113.jpg

I can always buy another car someday but my kids are only at home for a short amount of years and I want them to have those memories like I have

I know the feeling very well. After fooling with them for 50 years, sometimes down to each and every bolt, I can hardly stand to lift the hood. The welders sit idle.

mb911 04-08-2013 04:35 PM

I guess the business just took it out of me and I am kind of tired of smelling like old cars all the time and just want to drive em. I know I will miss many things but I need to think long and hard about what I really want. Probably another porshe. My dad has a boxster s that he loves and I kind of like it as well. but not right now.

Zeke 04-08-2013 05:12 PM

Ben, you can buy a good Boxster for cheap these days. Take your time, there are well over a hundred thousand out there and at any given time, a bunch for sale.

I will prime it over the next few weeks then reassemble it and then it is all diy. I have got a fair amount of interest but am very open to offers to just move on

If you prime, why not just paint? That would make it WAY more appealing as it would all just be nuts and bolts reassembly. I DIY everything on my cars but don't do paint and body, and I'm definitely not the only one.

Porsche-O-Phile 04-09-2013 04:17 AM

Never do body/paint work until the mechanical stuff is 100% back together - unless you like doing it (and paying for it) twice. No matter how careful you are, there's always something that'll get dinged, scratched or dented.

All mechanical is done I am at priming stages. I can run and drive the car right now.

As to why not paint it is because there is a long way from priming to block to paint. Most guys that restore these cars would prefer them in primer so they can final them for final paint so they know whats in there.
