Rolling restoration or? help need your support
Ok some of you may know I sold all my porsches when I sold my controlling interest in M&K. I miss having the cars but also needed a break. So I bought a 67 camaro convertible to restore. I have purchase 99% of the parts including paint to finish the car. The current state of the car is ALL of the sheet metal replacement is done. I have the car running and almost ready for the road. My thought now as spring approaches is to put it back together although not painted to drive it a bit as a rolling resto as I am going stir crazy only driving my truck. I would paint jambs and a few parts and reassemble to fit all the panels nice and block out as I have time allows while still enjoying the car. I have fallen behind in my timeframe (wanted it in paint by now) . At some point I will probably sell it but I think I am better off waiting till its finished to sell it next spring when the market is hottest. I want this to continue to be fun but the project is getting long in the tooth. I am considering picking up a 944 to just drive around but not sure I can get that past the boss.
Help I need your support on this. Winter may have been too long for me and I am thinking crazy I just thought this would help me slow down the project and do a better job.

Keep working on it, but keep driving it as much as possible too.
Or, if you can arrange a couple of long weekends with some qualified help, Just Get It Done

I am really leaning on just driving it for a while though incomplete I will get it out of my system and it will hopefully turn into a money maker as the plan always was from the start.

I like the idea of a 944. You can then continue working on the Camaro and hopefully have it ready by mid summer. The 944 can then become a project car.

Finish the Camaro first, before using it. You'll feel much happier with it at 100% than you will if you get some short-term instant gratification.my 2 cents.

where do you think your going to go driving a half finished car ?
Will that bring you true enjoyment? Instead of driving around spend your time on this project, finish the Camaro project, Plus your going to be wasting your time as fitting the interior and roof before painting will not be a good idea. As it will have to come back out off for a great paintjob

All good points my thoughts were to paint, jams, cowl, cowel panel(with stripes), Header panel(with stripes), valance, fender jambs and keep the rest in primer until ready. I could put most of the interior in and not have to remove any of it then and use Dart when I final paint. I could get to this point in about 2 weekends and kind of rat rod it for a while. it would be a huge sense of accoplisment and I would not put the new top on or put windows back in so it would be drive and let any body work shrinkage take place before it has final paint on it.
Its just really tough not having something to drive beside my toyota truck

Just spent the afternoon with my son working on the car. Taught him how to grind the old door skin off so I could reskin it. It was fun. we even started it up for the first time since its all been apart and full exhaust sounds nice and put a smile on his face. I said do you like it or should we sell it? he said finish it and keep it. we will see. Fun none the less

Gonna lose your shirt (more) unless it's completed. You have a better chance of recoup if it's complete.
You could've picked a worse car to restore fortuantely once the tedious work is done (block sand) the rest falls in place. rjp

Randy I have no intensions of selling unless complete I was looking to just use the car while doing the restore. rather then in a bunch of pieces in my shop. I might still pull off a 944 at some point or even a 914-4 to convert (i did one once and loved that car)

My first couple drives of the 911 was after paint, but the only glass was the windshield, the headlight buckets empty, and outside of the front seats temporarly bolted down, no interior.
Good thing I'm out in a rural area, with very limited patrols nearby. It was a thrill to have it move under its own power, but progress was really slow once it was driveable. Decisions, decisions.......... |

mine was a marina blue HT with white Z28 stripes 67. Started with a 6 cyl but had a steel cowl hood. after I was done 408" SB,/TH350 / 4:10 12 bolt and lowered on welds.
Nicest Camaro I ever owned....I miss it. Whoever owns it today has one hell of a car. rjp

I'm in the exact same position with my 73, it's in a perfect stage for paint, but if I do go to paint, I won't drive it until July at the earliest. My vote is to drive it and have fun, just know that it won't get finished until next winter. it's my plan anyway.

Love the Camero's!
Just my two cents... If you want a DD while you fix up the Camero you might want to consider something easier to maintain than a 944 if you are planing on spending all your free time working on the Camero. YMMV

I have always thought 944's were pretty robust cars?

They are. But when they DO need to be repaired, most jobs are a bit of a PITA.
