Kauai car show

The local car club had a show last weekend at a resort on the east side of the island. Nice mix of cars and friendly folks. Just want to share a few pics so you can see whats happening in the islands.

Cheers Richard

Funny we were just talking about these fans and shrouds this week here.

There are some show worthy sports cars on island that never show up for the shows, don't know why. Still a good turn out and fun time.

Lots of red dirt and pick up trucks mostly from when I was there, lol. Its odd to see such pristine looking cars gathered there compared to what I saw.

I did see a 914, would of been a whitish color if not for the red dirt sticking to it.

Thanks guys,
I had to dash through quickly and shoot a few snaps in the middle of a busy day. So the pics are not nice as they could be. But still I am surprised what turns out for these shows.
We have around 65K people living on Kauai, contrasting to over a mil. on Oahu.
But there is a long time core group of hot rod, muscle car, and drag race enthusiasts here. We do have one of only three drag strips in the state.

There are increasing numbers of relative new comers with diverse collections including exotics and sports cars now on island, but they are not showing up at the events yet.

Baz That 57 that you mention is very nice, frame off restoration, complete corvette running gear, put together to a very high standard. Sweet!

Tervuren, Not much red dirt in sight at the shows, But you are right lots of jacked up trucks to been seen around. And plenty of mud covered vehicles everywhere.

Cheers Richard

It appears that the '57 was in the company of a '59 or '60 as well.

Sweet! Must be harder, even with internet, to restore cars to such levels. Costlier as well I am guessing?

Very nice collection! Dang, I wish I could have seen these.....wish this could have been scheduled for next week!

Richard, are there going to be any car related events on Kauai next week (March 31 - April 9)?

Aloha and Mahalo!

Alex

I'm glad to see that you are enjoy seeing some of the machinery here on Kauai.

Most of the show class cars here were put together on the Mainland then brought over. The guys tell me that once a car has done the round of shows there in their home areas for a year or so. Then they go up for sale. And the guys here shop for cool cars to bring home to show here.
A few of the guys here do complete restos here, and yes it is difficult and expensive to do here. But for some its the doing the project that is the fun.

Alex, I've been checking the calender of events happening when you are here, have yet to find any car events on tap. I'll keep it in mind and let you know if anything interesting comes up. There is a Slack Key Guitar fest. happening near the end of your stay, if that is of interest. Looking like our condo will be available for that one night you are looking to fill at the end of your stay. I'll PM you about that. I'm hoping we can get out for some cruising in my targa while you are here. Hard to say about the weather that far out, good thing you are not here this week. Mostly cloudy and rainy now.

Zeke, Were you referring to the white bubble top in the right of this pic? Sorry, can't find any other pics.

If so it is a regular at shows here, and is very nice.

The local car scene continues to surprise me. Went to the Drag Races last summer and was really surprised at how deeply into the sport some families here are. Multi generations putting together cars that would do well anywhere. In some cases a number of cars in the same families. Quite a few Hot V Ws Some old bugs that could have embarrassed my SC pretty easily. Right on up to Fuel Funny cars, and Fuel Dragsters. Most of these team are from Kauai, but some came over from Oahu ( the track there is closed) and the other islands.

All in all the the love of cool cars is alive and well in the islands. Its easy to miss just driving around cause you just don't see many out and about. Not sure why, It is very salty here and muddy/dirty at times too.

I say drive'm if you have'm. But that's just me :-)
Richard
