Are your taxes done yet?

Me, I'd rather stick a hot fork in my eyeball than sit down and put it all together. I HATE paperwork. I always wait until the last minute, and then stress myself out over it.
I put an hour or two on it the last few nights, and has been a slow few days at work this week, so I'm gonna hammer on it a little every day, and hopefully have it all done for the weekend, so I can relax.

Work in progress. My wife and I both file as self employed, home office, vehicle deductions, amoritization, charitible contributions and care for her sick mother have made this years taxes even worse than last years in complexity. My wife is the worst procrastinator in the world so my strategy is to file an extension and not tell her. This prevents me from stressing on the deadline and forces her to get her paperwork together.
Taxes my explain my crankier than usual posts as of late.

I do mine as soon as I have all the paperwork assembled. Rip the band-aid off and not have anything to forget to do.

Done and half the refund spent. It took over a month to get the refund; I think the speed advantage of e-filing has been eliminated because everyone does it now.

Couple of weeks ago I E-filed through turbo tax and got the money direct deposited in less than a week.

fastfredracing 03-26-2013 07:21 AM

What is this money you guys are speaking of getting back? My only reward for all the paperwork is writing 3 big fat checks..... If I am lucky.

i was awarded the task this year. I HATE PAPERWORK! and i hate filling out forms. hate it!

i put it off, but had some free time..(my wife was free too, and bored. all part of the master plan). i kept yelling across the house, "what is your birthday?".."what can be considered a dependent?".."what goes in this blank?"....everytime she came over, i typed really slow, and used the backspace to fix mistakes. she couldnt stand it and said, the magic words, "it is going to take you forever!! move over"...i sat with her for a few minutes and started to mess with the neat stack of paperwork. she said, "go away".

done. i watched my DVR'd copy of JUSTIFIED.

we are now done, i have to drop the envelope off for our state taxes. DONE!

just kidding, we did it together ;)

Same here, so no hurry to get them done.

Corporate side was done a few weeks back. The personal side will be done next week.

Sales tax is done every month...and payroll taxes every week!

biosurfer1 03-26-2013 07:38 AM

Done and received the small refund. Turbo tax makes it easier since I've used them in past years and it automatically imports typical info. Not too bad this year but next year will be easier.

Accountant does them now. I used to do them and hated it and stressed out just like you guys. Then it just got too complicated hence the accountant. It is so worth the money. I don't get refunds. Plan it so that I owe money at the end of the year. Why overpay the crooks in gov't.

wdfifteen 03-26-2013 07:42 AM

Corp taxes were done in November. LLCs and personal paperwork is with the accountant.

VincentVega 03-26-2013 07:46 AM

I learned my lesson and wait until the end now, just finished the other day. Etrade sent some updates docs and a K1 came late again.

Jferr006 03-26-2013 07:46 AM

They've been done. When I know I'm getting money back I tend to get it done faster. The year we had to pay a bunch we happened to get a 180day automatic extension because of Hubs being deployed in a combat zone.

Aragorn 03-26-2013 07:51 AM

Man, you guys like to do them yourself?:D

I just get all the paperwork and give it my preparer. He sends back forms to sign and I don't lose any sleep. Tried to do it a few times but gave up on doing that because of the headaches. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...eys/pain30.gif

pete3799 03-26-2013 07:55 AM

Done.
Checks in the mail:(

Aggie93 03-26-2013 07:57 AM

Done, but need to go over it for a double check. Probably do that next weekend. Writing a decent sized check so no incentive to get it done early. I cannot think of the last time I got a refund.

FLYGEEZER 03-26-2013 08:04 AM

Done..... Getting a refund back this year for the first time, in a long time. Might have enough for a dinner out. Whoopie!!!!!!

At least for me, getting the paperwork together is the bulk of the work.
