Hennessey Ford GT Hits A Record 267.6 MPH At The Texas Mile

According to the Texas Mile's official Facebook page, a Hennessey Ford GT hit a new record of 267.6 mph this afternoon at the festival in Beeville. That tops the record they set last fall at a speed of 263.3 mph, and blows away the 257.7 mph speed they hit in 2012.

Just to be clear this is a Texas Mile record, not a standing mile record. This guy did over 280mph in a street car, standing mile:

Fastest standing mile

The previous standing mile record holder, which was a Camaro, got little fuzzy over 200, crashed and burned.

Driver is alright, car is a total loss.

What's the difference between "standing mile" and "Texas mile" ?

THE "Texas Mile" record is A "Standing Mile" record, but THE "Standing Mile" record wasn't set at the Texas Mile. Does that help?

Why does it have six exhausts? I could understand four--two out the turbos, two out the bypass valves.

So if you made a Texas mile record would that be a standing mile record as well or do one has to have a separate Texas mile and a standing mile record?

Those are the intakes for the compressor not the exhaust.

That seems incredibly risky. There's no telling what those things could ingest. I guess I assumed they could be using the standard intake ducts on the GT.

For an all-out record breaking run, you take the risk. You don't want any restriction, no matter how minimal.
I doubt you would find an air filter on a top fuel dragster, either.

I'm more curious about why he would want to suck air from a low-pressure area, like the back of the car, rather than using ducting so that he can get a ram-air effect.

Did anyone else notice that the driver of the 280 mph car didnt even have his belts tight while making his run. Huge stupid oversight, lucky he didnt crash or he would have been dead!!

At that speed does it really matter? You're dead either way if something goes wrong.
