How Not To Housebreak a Dog...

My 10yr olds attempt. Although her intent was ... well, good enough... this is not how to housebreak a dog!

She must have a Catholic DNA running in her - shaming the dog with the written word is a fools goal.

(But it was cute nonetheless)

Dog responded that his innate conception of reality and social equity was tabula rasa, combined with an urgent to piss.
Explained by inflections in a minimalist "woof".
Dumb human still can't understand.

do remind her ..
not only did she do the same..
she carried the stuff around...

it's easy..
learn to read their body language..
out after every meal & drink..

Head down and sniffing = Outside.

Dogs are pack animals, and like to reinforce or object to other dog scents.
They will search to go in the correct smelly spots.

With our puppy, we used an "anti-smell" spray made of earthy ingredients to cover up spotting inside.
It was made of the same stuff in the backyard....

The challenge is that my wife is home all day with her. My wife being blind doesn't see the dogs behavior. I do know that at least 15 to 30 minutes after a meal she is ready to go.

She has only had a few accidents but to me thats a few too many. The weather is really nice here and changes are the dogs and wife will be out back on the pation/pool all day.

Two words: Crate training. Look it up. It makes house training a breeze.

A female pup is 1/10th the battle of an un-neutered male pup.
Ask me how we know......

Dogs go inside because:
1). Humans ignore signals or pleadings, and dog absolutely wants and needs to go to the bathroom outside.
(Look for "hidden" accidents in remote corners).

2). "Humans are weak", and need to be trained that dog is boss.
This is complex.
Human females need to show she is absolute boss. Depending on breed it could be a challenge.

3). The smell of human stinks the house, and Dog needs to show she is a supporting member and protector of that pack and space.
Very good dog, but wrong implementation.
GIGO.

I find the cattle prod a particularly effective tool in all aspects of canine training. Works for kids too!
