this is pretty cool. i miss this shop. used to peak in there when i lived there. I like how they discuss that Leo didnt think to use a truss rod....probably cuz he wasnt a guitar player he didnt think about that aspect maybe?

nice "beaters". is that a newer 335?

I used to have a Les Paul exactly like that, except i think i see some flame in your top. Mine was blonde from the mid-70's and it was more of a butcher block top. no flame. It was my first decent guitar that i was really proud of. my mom bought it for me when i was 15. like a jerk, i traded it in for something i was never happy with. its now hanging in a guitar shop with ozzy's autograph on it for some reason

My 335 is probably 10 yrs. old, but no photo can do the quilt justice. I snatched it on eBay for $1000 and the listing also said photos couldn't capture the quilt. Man, was it a pleasant surprise when I opened that case. I had it delivered to the office and couldn't put it down. It's a work of art. My LP's flame top is better up close than in photos too. However, the Ernie Ball doesn't look any better up close than in photos. I fear the day that finish fades, which was an issue with Ernie Ball stuff made in the early 90's.

Love that LP! Its got an all business look to it!

The LP is one axe I've not yet owned, yet . I've been a Strat guy for years, then in the 80's/90s went Ibanez RG series for flexibility (studio and live).

I did p/up a sweet early 80s Gibson Explorer for spare change, don't play it as its not my style or very comfortable 'for me' to play. Its appreciated some 500% over what I paid for it. Maybe my son will want it when he gets old enough?

I do plan on adding a nice flame top LP to the stable one day soon.

A buddy of mine (retired investment banker) has been on a buying spree since the economy has forced so many guitars on the market. I'll get a pic of his collection and see how many can identify what he's got. Pretty cool and unusual stuff along with the standards.
Re EMG
In the 80s and 90s I lived and played in the Bay area, EMG was virtually unknown to most guys back then (early 80s I think).

For us it took a while for the 'active' p/ups that needed batteries to gain traction.

I remember a Parker Fly was one of the 1st I played with the EMGs. I immediately saw the benefits after playing my instructors Mark Johnson custom. I think we used 80 and 85s (?)in my Ibanez guitars with great results.
(Don't have that one anymore)
Never put them in a Strat tho, I prefered the Texas Specials in the Strats.

Bringing back some memories!!
