New Horse Head and Fish

The Horse is as done as I am going to do, I wanted it to look like it was broken out of a relief, kinda like pillagers used to break heads of statues for souvenirs because they couldn't carry off the whole thing. It's in a red Alabaster,
The fish is a little weird, also in red Alabaster, not totally finished, needs to be polished and waxed. Those little curls are tricky, I won't be doing something like this in Alabaster again, it's too soft and weak, should have done something like this in Marble. Just learning, this is my one year anniversary of stone carving.

bad picture of that fish, maybe this one will look better.

nope, looks like they are both a little out of focus. I will have to do better when I polish it.

OK, polished and waxed the fish, I am done, as with everything it could be better but it's a learning thing. I hope these pictures show it a little better.

Just about everything else I have done I took pictures along the way, from basic rock to finished product, this, nothing. I didn't even have a drawing to start with on this, I just got the rock and said, this will be a fish, I am going to do another fish in Calcite and have a big piece of blue Marble I need ideas for, it's about 42" by 26" by 8", I thought about making it an Abalone shell this weekend but not sure.
I really envy artists, they have ideas, it takes me forever to get one.
I will bring one of these to show you in a couple weeks. I think they look better in real time. It won't be this fish though, I cut it too thin, it won't travel well, I took it to a shop in Dana Point this afternoon and didn't even want to leave it there, to many hands touching and those curls are just tooooooo fn thin. I even left the last ones connected because the first ones broke and I had to re cut them. It's a learning process, next time, MARBLE.

I try not to look at it like that.

I'm just wondering about all the polishing. I refinish guitars as a hobby. Lots of time...

Somebody once said; "Conform, go crazy, or become an artist". Wish I could remember who.

Anyway, it's obvious which path you have chosen...

I was wonder what do you do with those giant stones when I saw you stole them off the shore. Now I know. J/K.
