Whats wrong with our young men?

Lets keep it out of PARF zone guys and gals.

I have seen way to many stories of young men, or "mature" boys doing despicable acts of Rape and Bullying and not seeming to understand whats wrong with their actions?? Where have things gone wrong with these lads?? A beautiful young Girl in Nova Scotia Canada is the latest victim....ended up with her taking her own life when justice could not be had.

Oh Haha 04-12-2013 04:04 PM

A young girl in CA did the same thing after a similar crime. Despicable.

JavaBrewer 04-12-2013 04:05 PM

It all starts (or never leaves the blocks) from in the home. IMO there are more good kids out there than bad but the good ones don't make the news at 6. Condolences to that girls family. I can't help but wonder what the family did (not) do to help rally. Tragic.

I'm extremely saddened. Culture excerbated by SAP.

Nostril Cheese 04-12-2013 04:11 PM

Some of it has to do with cultural attitudes.. particularly those in certain Canadian provinces.

Getting away from the traditional family structure, total lack of personal responsibility and no respect for persons in positions of authority.

quicksix 04-12-2013 04:29 PM

Lack of respect, poor judgment and a culture of entitlement.
Some young men are followers and some are leaders, and when you get a couple of followers together, add etoh,a passed girl and they see it as opportunity.
A leader type would stand guard and kick some ass if they tried some thing so disgusting as sexually assault a defenseless person.
My wife graduated from that high school in California, and had some pretty wierd stories from her time there.Saratoga is a well to do community, with lots of good kids and families.
It starts at home folks.

Parents, or not, either way a breakdown.

Evans, Marv 04-12-2013 04:30 PM

Yes, it starts at home but permeates all of current society with no consequences or responsibility for negative behavior during a lifetime of upbringing.

I also think the lack of Dad in the home growing is a big issue. They learn to be men from TV, movies, or their computers. there is no bull elephants to enforce the law.

rusnak 04-12-2013 04:45 PM

Well, I don't know "why" and can't answer the OP's question.

I do think that each is a case by case situation, and don't look at the two as a trend.

It's up to the mom and dad to raise their kids to respect others and to do right. But when a kid or an adult does something clearly wrong, then the community must act to see justice served. I don't reflect upon these cases as indicative of all young men, just perhaps a sign that young men need better examples to follow. A few young men clearly chose poorly. They are not angels. They are humans, which is to say an evolved animal. Sometimes we get reminders that humans are not that highly evolved after all, and decency must be enforced.

Terrible stories. I hope the perps get more time or the death penalty than their actual crimes would usually get.

quicksix 04-12-2013 04:54 PM

Yeah,at some point in life the parente role is done, and the die is cast.
I went to some parties in high school where some girl had too much too drink, and I never had the thought, cool, great opportunity!
And Marv, you are right about it permeating every thing.
That is why the home is so important.
I was raised by my mom and my grandmother, with no real male influence.
But at a very early age I KNEW right from wrong, and that is somehing lacking in some kids these days.

syncroid 04-12-2013 05:21 PM

This also just happened here locally for us.

McLovin 04-12-2013 06:40 PM

The kids today are the first generation of children who were raised by children ("adult" parents who never advanced past the intellectual/maturity/responsibility level of a child).

It's also a big part of why only 63% of working age men are working today.

BUT IT's RAPE..............!!!!!
It,s as fundamental in wrong doing as walking down a path and picking up dog **** and telling your buddy, "WE ALMOST STEPPED IN THIS! "
YES upbringing has to do with this but, homo-sapiens know this is wrong and it's ingrained in the brain as animals that we are.
No excuse for anyone.
You don't look into the Sun to see whats happening around you.

I think a lot of good input here.

Home environment.

Community environment.

It's a generational thing (McLovin).

Peer pressure too which has always dictated young person's behaviour.

I really think (for whatever reason - see above) the two concepts RESPECT and EXCELLENCE are just not as emphasized in our society as much any more.

Seems like it's all about "special effects"....getting a lot of attention regardless of any substance.

But there are many examples of youth excellence we just don't hear about either because those stories are not very "sexy" to report.

RIP to that young lady. :(

You don't look into the Sun to see whats happening around you.

You have a painfully naive view of human capacity for cruelty to fellow humans. Open your eyes some day and look around.

I want you to sit back and take this at face value rather than the personal attack that you will assume it is.

You're saying this, while having a cartoon picture making fun of a different culture as your avatar, and a joke about gynecological exams as your signature.

Now, tell me who never advanced past the intellectual level of a child, them or you?
