Words that bother me.

Swipe, to me it means steal. But Credit Card Machines at stores use this word to run your card.

Our California tax board calls itself "State Board of Equalization" Really, will you make me equal to Bill Gates?

When you're online with the State and you enter your information you "Submit" To me a subject submits to a King.

Any other words that bother you?

The words that bother me are ;
-Politically correct.....like politicians are ever correct !
-Carbon footprint....I don't suppose heating with wood, and driving a diesel 4x4 helps me.
-Metrosexual...........I don't like the word, or those "fem" wannabes
-Loafers...........see above ^^^^^
-Pocket dogs.....^^^^^^^^

Ahhhhhh, yes young grasshoppa, you starting to see and listening well!

Language is used very craftily by many entities that we all interact with on a daily basis. Words are carefully chosen to cement differential psychological positions in the minds of the masses. Just one of the many ways pseudo influence/control is maintained. You become acutely aware of this aspect the less you watch TV and allow your mind to really process and listen to the things you see and hear. Learning the ways of key words, phrases, and gestures can really change the outcome of many interactions one has in life. There is an exhausting supply of theories and practices surrounding business communication and how to maintain control during a meeting for example. It is fascinating and once you know a little about it and can start to see others using the advantage knowingly or unknowingly you see the world in a different way. Think of it as another dimension of our social structure hidden in plain sight.

A good salesman uses a lot of the most common techniques to gain trust, keep the position of power, develop your wants into needs that fit the mold he/she is selling, etc.

It is truly powerful and can be used for good or evil.

In my day to day I hear these being overused with no emotion...might as well not say them.

That's just one meaning and certainly not the original meaning and not the primary meaning. Using "swipe" in regards to stealing is more or less slang.

The credit card usage you mention *IS* the the right choice of words.

Get over it......

Scott
