I loved driving that course in GPL. One of the few courses I could hang with the AI's when I was teen. I started to learn Spa, got decent there to. Wheel gave up the ghost, and I started karting.

If you don't have GPL(Grand Prix Legends), check it out, also check out the geek brewed updates for it that take the graphics out of the 90's.

The 4-wheel drifting in that video was very realistic. I was always amazed at the amount of drift I saw watching an enduro kart in front of me. I never felt I was drifting that much myself, but I had to be. It's not the same as getting a bit sideways. It's just how it's done. You don't really feel it.

That GPL clip really isn't a fair comparison to when in the virtual seat. Been away from the online league but you got me wanting again. I have GPL and a fave sim. You can run it on any new PC today and its greatly improved. Chassis set-up's and a high quality wheel, triple pedal makes a difference. No cheat and set everything on full pro, no traction, brake aids, no paddle shifters - challenging. AI are mean guys. DL for free too, upgrades, hundreds of tracks.

Zeke- I watched last night that kart race at R/A you posted a few years back. Man, that looked to be a riot. Would have never thought how close the grid ran during the entire race on such a huge track. Was that a spec kart series? Never drove a shifter kart but guest drove others two sion, btrokes. Fun

I would rather see GP cars return to a formula similar to those cars...with much better driver protection of course.

The current abominations neither look good nor do they offer the kind of driver challenge that I believe F1 should be. Get rid of paddly shifters, DRS, KERS, all that crap....especially aero.

I am not sure if it would be possible as we need the crumple zones and such, but those racers were real drivers, Clark being at the top of my list for sure.

One of the best films preserved and giving one a feeling of the era. (Decent res. for large screen) Ford Co. - First Time Out - Lotus 49 at Zandvoort and the class of 67.

This month's Road and Track has an article on this Lotus. Article states that mounting slicks will tear the suspension off the car (rear suspension is mounted directly to the transaxle)!

^^^ I wouldn't doubt it... the film above briefly explains the chassis and if you see one for yourself they really are fragile machines. Not sure of the 49 but Chapman genius thinking on some cars would run the cooling plumbing through the chassis frame tube components - simple, lighter but what the??? Owners of these vintage racers today have lots to be careful of and re-route plumbing, constantly checking joints for inside corrosion, etc..

Other: Some of the old timers who raced Jag sportscars of the day and now campaigned in vintage events say its a bad deal to run slicks. Not only about the extra stress but feel it hinders handling. Guessing some owners of early 911 would say the same if running a near stock chassis.

Could only imagine what Matra was thinking with a monocoque-based car but including the fuel tanks?!
