Headed to SF next week, Giants game?
 

I will be in the SF area next Tues-Fri (morn) for training and was wondering where all of you locals suggest I should visit, dine, etc. while I am there.
I will be traveling with one of my chemists so I was thinking about taking him to the Giants game Tuesday night.

Ive never been to bay area yet (staying in Burlingame) so your suggestions of must do's/sees are welcome, even if they are "touristy."

San Francisco is one of the great American cities to visit for a few days. Plenty to see and do there regardless of the weather. The choices are vast so it really depends on your interests. If you like seafood you can get it fresh here everywhere, Italian food, Chinese, and great Cali wines. A stop at the Buena Vista for a real Irish coffee is a must.


By the way... The Giants SUCK! :D

If you like baseball, that is a great place for a game. Be prepared to wait in line for quite a while for garlic fries, but they are worth it. I see the Brew Crew may have beaten the Giants tonight...

As for other activities, what may make the most sense depends on how much free time you will have and when you will have it. Plus of course your general interests.

Hi jcc911, here is a few Momo's near the ball park is a popular location and Scoma's at Fishman's Wharf is a S.F. tradition, another one, is Tadich Grill a seafood restaurant located in the financial district and is known as a traditional, authentic S.F. restaurant.

It might be hard to get tickets for the Giants. They've sold out every game for the last couple of years. So don't just show up at the ticket booth and expect to get in.

As for other things to do:
Irish coffee at Buena Vista, as someone else suggested.
Pier 49 (touristy, but then, you are a tourist)
Golden Gate Bridge
Lombard Street (the curvy street)
Filbert Street, east of Hyde (Steepest street in SF)
Coit Tower and Filbert Street steps
Golden Gate Park (area around Japanese Tea Garden)
Alcatraz
North Beach for Italian food
China Town
Twin Peaks (great views)
Cocktails at the Top of the Mark (The Mark Hopkins Hotel - a true SF local experience)
Cars Dawydiak (cool Porsches for sale)
ride a cable car
If you have time, check out the coast around Half Moon Bay - eat at Sam's Chowder House

Seeing a Giant's game at AT&T park is a great idea and will be fun. It's probably the most beautiful MLB park in the land right now. Homers go *splash*. You can always find a ticket, especially a single.

I fell in love with a restaurant last summer when I was up there for a spell, can't remember it but just texted my friends in SF and will post it when I get it. Sort of near the ballpark, as well.

Yes I am quite the base ball fan, and was huge giants ( and 49ers) fan as a kid, besides my hometown teams which i loved first. Will Clark was my idol then (don't judge), so it would be great to catch a giants game.

Which are the better seats and which ones to avoid?

There really are no seats to avoid at this special field in China Basin. I believe that you said that you are in town next week and we are expecting warm weather so even the View seats at the top of the stadium will be fine. The bleachers are also a blast but make sure that you have the right cap on (just joking! :)

That said, I would recommend spending some part of the game walking throughout the stadium because the vantage points from different places are special and accessible.

You also may want to consider walking the GG Bridge at night and/or taking in the City from the Marin Headlands just north of the bridge.

+1 for Tadich Grill and many other suggestions! If you want hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese food, try Cordon Bleu on CA and Polk right on the CA cable car line. :)

Again thanks. I certainly will as I was planning on buying a hat there, unlike when I go to Wrigley and cheer on the other team. Yeah so after liking them so much in my childhood, I stopped following for many years and jumped back on the band wagon last year. But still hoping for the Crew to sweep today.
I may just do the bleachers and plan on touring the facility.

Well if the Brewers win today I'd say that it would be ok to wear a cap with a "M" on it because your guys surely have the Giants number...at least at this early stage of the long season!

Next Thursday is a full moon; watching it rise from the Marin Headlands or on the GGB will be very special...

Besides garlic fries are there any other park traditions? For example like a dodger dog? (Sorry if I offended ;-)

A few Gordon Biersch brews should wash the garlic stank down nicely :D

Don't miss the Alcatraz tour...get your tickets early. Check out the Musee Mecanique and tour the WWII submarine USS Pampanito...both down near Fisherman's Wharf. Try riding the Cable Cars too...the POWELL-HYDE line has the best views and the CALIFORNIA line is the least crowded. The Cable Car Museum is really interesting too. Head up to Twin Peaks for a fantastic 360° view of the City. Have a drink at the Top of the Mark on Nob Hill. The Disney Museum in the Presideo is pretty cool. It's not just about Disneyland but more about Walt's life, career and the pursuit of his vision. For a little culture, check out the DeYoung Museum in Golden Gate Park. The Exploritorium is big fun for kids of all ages. Walk across the Golden Gate Bridge.
Driving around SF is a total PITA and trying to park a car in the downtown area is nearly impossible...use public transit if you can. And bring some warm clothes...spring weather in SF can still be quite chilly, especially in the evenings.

Welcome to the Bay Area!

I expect that if the Giants continue playing as they have during the last couple of games, you will enjoy the show...although I prefer that the late game heroics occur a bit earlier in the game and a bit more frequently! :)

If ya need a 911 fix and find yourself lost in the North Bay, give me a holler...

Game was fun. Too bad the dba*s pulled it out. Fries we definaty garlicky but good as was the beer. Sittin on the Caltrain for 25 min and then being moved to another and sitting for another 20 min post game wasn't fun.
Not sure how far I am from you, my hotel is in Burlingame. Gotta plan the events for the evening. Ironically, I'm actually pretty close to the porsche dealership here.
