My cat is a raptor.

She decimated my recent vole problem. Last night she brought me a live mole. My wife screamed and levitated. I released the mole into a nice garden down the street. They eat grubs.
Is there any specific breed of cat that is the best hunter? Fergie is a gray tabby. My black cat showed zero interest all throughout life.

In my experience, strays seem to make the best hunters. The few cats I and a few others have had that were strays seem to hunt the best. Didn't matter if they were tabbys or tuxedos. And they always share with their humans as a sign of respect. Make sure to thank your kitty for a good job.

Our cat caught blind moles fairly regularly. The one thing that did freak out the wife was the live gopher she drug in one afternoon. Gophers have some serious looking teeth and claws..

I've found that generally speaking, the females are the better hunters. Cats are also taught to hunt by their mothers..

Cool, good news about the moles. I just got 2 outside cats to help control the critters. Once they are acclimated to the yard they get released, I hope they are as you mentioned.

coincidentally, i was googling "trapping voles" when fergie brought in the first one. she got them ALL! i would take one from her, and i think it pissed her off and she would run out and grab another. she doenst do the best job killing them..the last one, i think she broke the backbone and just let it drag itself about with it's fronts. i had to pellet gun it behind the ear godfather style.

Correct. Domestic cats are the number 1 killer of songbirds - not just in cites and suburbs but out in exurbia and in the regional parks of the SF Bay Area also.

Our little orange tabby is a psychopathic killer.

Monday morning Jenn was getting ready for work when she looked out the window. Our little cat had eaten the head right off of a baby bunny. Skull and everything. Just sitting on the deck chewing away.

Now I knew Jenn would be emotional all day about it, she loves animals, and baby ones even more so. So she comes home, and for the first time ever, the mother rabbit was sitting out on the lawn... all ... friggin... evening. Jenn was a basket case she felt so guilty.

Yup, I love cats, too.

My old cat used to bring us "gifts" all the time. She had an MO and I honestly think she knew exactly what she was doing. My wife and daughters were "typical" women--don't like crawling critters. Anyway...when the cat caught a bird, she'd bring it into one of the girls' rooms and just absolutely shred it; feathers and what not EVERYWHERE. When she caught lizards or rodents, she kept them alive and released them near the wife or girls; I think she got a kick out of the reaction.

Our last cat was a murderer also. She would leave presents at our front doorstep several times a week. Stepping in dis-emboweled bunny rabbit on your way out the door to work in the morning is a real crappy way to start the day. Our current cat is an indoor cat.

I'm happy my cats keep the rodent population out of sight around our house.

Of my four cats two are useless in the killing dept, one is a decent hunter and the last one is a stone cold killer. The life expectancy of another, unwelcome animal on the property is about thirty seconds. Dogs are great fun.
Cats exist for one reason, and that is to hunt.

This is why my cat stays indoors 100% of the time.

all of our cat have been psychotic hunters, before he died our yellow long hair liked to stalk deer. He brought us countless mice, rabbits, snakes, birds but the one that shocked me was the day he caught a huge crow. Our grey tabby is a monster one day he somehow managed to injure a turkey vulture and he spent the next few hours hunting the thing. as it hopped from treetop to treetop he would climb the tree after it.
