Attention red wine drinkers.

You may already know about these. And I'm just a bit slow with new things, but...

Last night at a nice German restaurant our waitress brought over a wine aerator and said pour it trough this. Wow, it really did work. At home I pour a wine backwards and forwards about 10 times between tumblers but this was better. It was Vinturi brand.

It's the same as decanting wine for a few hours but sometimes (mental health reasons) you want a glass right now, and want it tasting it's best.

They work great, but bad wine is still bad wine.

I picked up one myself a couple of months ago in Margret River. They do work well.

Yep--they can make a difference in a normally "tight" wine by aerating a bit. Sometimes we will take a taste with and without the venturi just to see the difference--and it is usually quite noticeable--especially in younger big reds.

It certainly looks better than say...shaking the decanter feverishly.

I have one and it totally makes my $10.99 wine taste like $14.99. that's good enough for what I'm doing.

Yes, they sell one specifically for white wines. Guessing slightly different aeration - dunno for sure.

Thumbs up wine aerator

The wine aerator has been around now for about 2+ years. It does improve and or increases the flavor along with breathing the wine much faster. I live the the Santa Rita Valley in Santa Ynez, CA, where some of the best rated Pinots over the last 4-5 years have come from (Seasmoke). It is a great item to have that works well & good value; but it does need to be rinsed out with changes between bottles to be tasted.
This weekend is the Santa Barbara County Wine Festival in the Santa Ynez valley of the region. The event has over 200 wineries signed up at the main event; along with all the Vintner Dinners & events over the next three days. With many tasting and pairing events scheduled over the weekend!
Cheers

The only difference between the red and the white vinturis is that the red wine version comes with a removable sediment screen.

I have one, and it works alright. I don't really use it all that often, though.

You shouldn't rely on a screen. For an older wine, you will see a discoloration (bottom scum ) before the chunks. This will impact clarity in a big way. Use a candle (although a flashlight works in a pinch).

Vinturi's have their place with a young pop 'n pour wine. For anything good, decant hours ahead & let it breathe.

Adding a drop (or two) of cold water will do to Scotch what the aerator does to red wine...

Vinturi were the first one out of the gate but there are quite a few similar products available.

I got this set up at a winery.
