Does that just read the sound level or can it record a frequency distribution and download it to a laptop, or something?

Nope, it's a dumb meter. We had a voluntary sound level unlike San Diego or Monterey that had one imposed on them.
Can be set to certain levels and it will alert the human monitor as to an excessive level with an alarm. The tripod is a Manfrotto 3405, $169 retail. The meter is Radio Shack. 9v powered.

It's also used in music for tuning....hence the dual scales.

These come in handy for setting up 7channel home theatre.
