Oil Extractors...Anyone Use Them?
Which ones have you used?
. . I'm tired of crawling under cars to change oil. Most folks that use the extractors, claim that no oil is left - same as opening drain plug. I see good reports on this one: . Mityvac 7201 Fluid Evacuator Plus : Amazon.com : Automotive

I had one of the big ones that Girot's sells- I used it a few times and gave up. Gave it away.
Sloooow. You are never sure you are totally empty, so refiling with oil can be a crapshoot, and it's just one more thing to clean up under you are done. It also won't pick up any bits and pieces at the bottom of the pan. The old method is faster and superior. Those things are made for boats....

Is this for a 911? If it is, how are you going to get the oil out of the engine with a fluid extractor?

Ive used them on on my boat engines. But always felt they didnt get any sediment that might be left on the bottom of the pan.

I've used them as some of the smart cars out there have no other way to remove the oil. I found them slow and just as messy. Also I wonder if you get the heavy stuff up from the bottom of the pan. The ones I used had volume markings on the container letting you know exactly how much came out, so accidental overfill was never an issue.

My new Fiat Abarth has a skid plate that needs to be removed to access the drain plug...a PITA to ramp the front & crawl under there to wrench that thing off. I even thought about hogging out some soil in the back yard to make a pit - ala farmer style from back in the old North Dakota days. ![]()

I would rather let the oil run out. I would fear gunk and frags not leaving the sump

Extract the oil when it's at full operating temp or you'll have a couple birthdays waiting.

I have that Mityvac unit. It works great but I only use it on my boat.

Having seen the inside of countless oil pans, the way the drain plug is positioned in the pan always leaves a small amount of oil in the pan. Any heavy material stays in the pan. You always have to clean heavy material out before re-installing. This excludes the sump on a 911 or vw of course. I wouldn't be to concerned about the stuff left in the pan using an extractor.

Use on for my boat and when I had my BMW 330i. Like mentioned above, warm the oil up first.

I bought that exact unit about 2 weeks ago.
I've used it to replace the tranny and diff. oil on my Viper. Worked great. Didn't spill a drop of oil. A little slow on the filling, but likely due to the heavy weight oil. My only complaint would be with the plastic hoses that come with it. They are very rigid, and have a "set" to them, so they can be a little difficult work with at times.

I had one similar to that for changing the oil in my wife's Benz. Worked well.

I have a mityvac 7201. Got the Griot Garage pneumatic pump. Prefer that one. I use them for oil changes on the Mercedes.

I used a different model of Mityvac for oil changes on our old Passat. It worked well and was a lot better than removing those awkward huge plastic panels under the engine to drain the oil. If access isn't a problem, pulling the sump plug is faster.

Forget the model but it was about $50 at autozone - hand vacuum pump to suck the oil out the dipstick tube. Infinitely cleaner & easier than from below on all the cars, especially the Benz. I've used it maybe 2 dozen times and it still works great, only complaint is the plastic spherical reservoir fills up quickly, bigger capacity is better!
