Mow first, shorter hair is less likely to get stuck in your teeth.

Previous routine:
weedeater, mow, beer, sweep up the bulk of the clippings from the driveway, blow, get the weedeater back out because I forgot to edge, sweep again, blow, beer, get the blower back out again because I forgot the back patio, beer, done.

Current routine:
Put the dog inside, unlock gates to backyard, pay yard guy $40, thank the yard guy, done.

It all depends on your yard.
If you have walls or some type of edge product around gardens etc then weedeater first is good because then the lawnmower picks up the cllippings provided you have a bag catch mower.No mower will cut right next to a wall or edge so there will be a thin strip of grass so weedeating first is best.
Now that way means you are weedeating every edge and that takes more time and cost. If you have edges that are flush or easily mowed then a touch up afterwards with the weedeater is easier but the clippings go somewhere so either leave them or clean up some how afterwards.

BTW. A woman that is willing to cut the lawn should never have to.

Weed-whack the edges around the perimeter first, then mow and catch the edging trimmings in the mower.

LOL.....it really doesn't matter - do whatever you want. I have my system....you have yours.

Beer, weedeater, start mowing, light cigar & grab a fresh beer, finish mowing with cigar and beer, take nap satisfied that the job was done right.

My wife admits to sorta liking to mow. I bought a really good self propelled mower that is easy for her to start, so it's really like taking a walk in the yard. She rolls up her sleeves and gets a tan while I do the trimming and edging (and beer drinking). It's win - win!

Whats a weed eater??? With 5 acres of lawn, I ride the Kubota with 72" mower deck and the wife does the trim with the push mower. Takes about 2 1/2 hours each time, and anything that the mowers miss, gets round-up. Beer comes when done, as there is no cup holder and it would bounce out anyway.

Haha - so true. It is something I have never seen anywhere else in the country or even elsewhere in CA. These guys have it down. They are in and out in less than 10 minutes on respectable size properties (for LA anyways).

When I did not have a gardener, my wife would mow the lawn and I edged ever couple months when the edges got too ugly. I do not care much about a pristine lawn. It seems like a Sisyphus task - you get it all perfect, only to watch it grow out and do it all over again next Saturday. Waste of time IMHO.

I also weedeat and then mow. Like Matt, I have a really nice Honday mower and most of the time Mulch, but I do bag it every once in a while.

Mowing the lawn is the one thing I completely control. I have no budget, no boss, no employees. When I'm done I have something to show for my labor and if I mess it up, I can attempt it again next week.
