A new low for even for NYC
A college student in NYC has been arrested for possessing and possibly selling Air Soft guns. The local media is reporting that he had "a large cache of weapons in his dorm room". They have even gone so far as to compare him to the Boston bombing lunatics. When will the media stop spreading fear about gun ownership. The kid was not a terrorist he was just a kid and turning him into a criminal for possessing a toy gun is simply insane. Maybe we should all refuse to watch the "news" until they start behaving and reporting things responsibly and stop trying to spread fear and panic. They interviewed other students at the school who said that it was very scary to think he was living so close to them. I can't wait to retire and leave this city for good.
Police: NYU Student With Arsenal Of Imitation Assault Weapons Arrested « CBS New York |
The media has become an organ of the state's propaganda machine. Republicans, guns, any media not on board, and 16 oz. soda's all threaten the status quo.

So the arrest is real but the guns are not?
I hope he can sue for false arrest. |

From the article: “There’s a local ordinance in New York City that makes it unlawful to possess an air rifle or an imitation weapon. So the student was arrested,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne told WCBS 880. |
When they say NY has the most strick gun laws in the country they are not kidding... even toy guns are against the law! That is crazy.

Not a fan of those things. Super realistic looking.
Using the term 'arsenal' is waaay over the line though. |

Hard to believe. |
As ridiculous as this sounds, it's real, cops are looking for anything these days.
Last Tuesday, my little BIL who goes to Villanova texted me "You're never going to believe this" while he and his roommate were at lunch. Saying 6 Police officers strolled into the dining hall, grabbed a kid who was getting his lunch, and began questioning him. As more cops, ultimately 11cars rolled up, arrived they brought him outside (the walls are glass and everyone was staring) they searched/cuffed the kid and started pulling NERF guns out of his backpack laying them on the cruiser like they were M-4s... Said they gave the kid **** for about 25 minutes, uncuffed him, gave his NERF guns back, and sent him back into lunch. Bet their Sgt got a phone call later that day... $55k a year and the cops are concerned about NERF guns!?!? |

Living in NYS I was not aware of a law again air rifles in NYC. I suppose they can be dangerous but no where near the category of an AR15. Just crazy.
Why this kid would be put in a group with Boston bombers puzzles the mind. |
Squirt guns and air guns are prohibited in Philly. No problem carrying my 9mm though. I have a license for that. *shrug*

Another thing to thank Nanny Bloomberg for.

The TSA and their rules are just a prep for the rest of the country. Your little green army men with their little green guns from when you were a kid may some day get you in real trouble when they start searching your house like they search luggage at airports.
Maybe I shouldn't of put that in green, maybe it will happen. :( Its how we act now that will keep that statement in green instead of black! I try to avoid crap that treats people with toy guns for toy soldiers as criminals. I haven't flown within the country in two years, although I've had some long trips. I took a boat to Europe rather than fly last year. Took a decently powerful CAD computer with me, and got a fair amount of work done in the extra two weeks it took vs taking a plane. I'd be calling/writing politicians if I were in N.Y. If they didn't listen, I'd be moving. We do have 57 states, although I haven't been to all 57. There are less nutty states to move to. |

School confiscates third-grader In the latest incident of anti-gun hysteria to erupt in a school setting, officials at an elementary school in small-town Michigan impounded a third-grader boy’s batch of 30 homemade birthday cupcakes because they were adorned with green plastic figurines representing World War Two soldiers. |
Many universities have rules against having an airsoft gun on campus. Not saying I agree (or even understand) but it is across most, if not all, states.
|
I have written to all of our local politicians here in NY regarding our ridiculous gun laws and have gotten the standard reply "we are trying to protect the public". But this is beyond the scope of common sense. The kid is in a good school that is very hard to get into most likely a decent kid and this can ruin his entire life. As I said they compared him to terrorists with his picture plastered on the screen. Much like the poor kid from Boston that the idiots in the media identified as the bomber when he in fact was just there to watch the race.

Aren't Airsoft guns spring-actuated? That would make exempt them from a ban on pneumatically-operated guns. I have a 1911 Airsoft, at least I think it's an Airsoft, and it's definitely spring-actuated. I put a big piece of orange duct tape on the slide and it has the orange barrel.

Rick, they can be powered by CO2, green gas or spring air like a Red Ryder. The spring air can be manual or elecrically driven and the automatic electrics can fire in excess of 20 BBs per second. Most good ones are 350 to 450 fps with a .20 g BB but some sniper rifles are considerably faster and have rules on how close you can be when you fire on someone.
By law they have to have .25" of orange on the tip of the barrel unless at a designated arena. I can tell you that a .20g bb at 400fps will draw blood on a forehead at over 30'. I know because I was clearing a barn with my sidearm and he popped his head out of cover and I fired when I saw movement. He should have had his balaclava on. I also use the pistol to dispatch mice in our detached garage. |
How much worse can it get.? After all, I had to get a background check to buy a Daisy Red Ryder here in Jersey.

I use mine for shooting pigeons in the yard, but I have to sneak right up on them to really disable them. Then I put them in the leaf catch and into the pool for 10 min.
