Earbud Recommendation
My earbuds went south. I use then with my old ipod, to listen to music. I play bass, so the bass response is important to me. I need to replace them. I am looking for a recommendation for cheap, easy to find earbuds that are high fidelity. The $12 units at Fred Meyer are probably just fine for me, but I just wonder if anybody has found earbuds they find particularly impressive, sound-wise.

I prefer Sennheiser; these are a decent pair but you can spend more if you are willing:

I've gone through 10 in the last 5 years. The 50$ skull candy are the best over 300$ plus. Just make sure to shrink wrap the first 6" out of the plug. Otherwise not worth a damn.

I give away ear buds that come with iPods and stuff. Hate em. Are you micd live? You can run XLR or quarter inch cord to a monitor set a few feet in front of you.

Explain this. The "plug" means the thing that goes into the ipod? Why put shrink tube on it?

My wife bought me a set of Bowers & Wilkins in-ear buds. They have several different rubber ear bits to suit and you can use them with your iPhone - phone calls & music. Forward, reverse and pause songs & volume. Bass response is exceptional and they pretty much cancel out all ambient noise. Very happy with them. Not sure how much but I think they were $$$.

This is a no brainer. Any of the Klipsch in the S4 range. The sound quality is stupendous, very good bass. If you have an Apple product, the S4i has a remote control built into the earphone cable for controlling your ipod/iphone. Very trick.
IMO...this is the best earbuds on the market for the money. If you care about such things, this is among the highest rated earbuds at CNET.

This. I've been through them all. You name it. The S4s are the best out there for sound and quality. The others just disappoint.
Pick up a pair at a local shop. There are a lot of knockoffs out there so skip the online stuff.

1. The rhythm elements....bass cadence and 2. Song structure.....where the breaks and whatnot are. This isn't for live stuff. I just want to hear the music and HEAR the bass.

I have a pair of westone something or other. I think they were around $150. Very nice, several different ear pieces. They are very comfortable and cut out a ton of ambient noise. I wear them on long motorcycle rides as well.

Supe because I wear my buds about half of every day I catch them on doorknobs, shelf corners, anything that sticks out. Most every brand no matter whose have cheap flimsy chords that fail. Heat shrink wrap from the plug up about six inches extends life somewhat.

I'm very excited about the new project. Party blues, I'd call it. I've found some very good musicians. This is going to be fun.

Not a big fan of the Bose product but we wandered in to one of their storefronts in a mall and the earbuds were damn good... so much so we dropped $100 on a set.

I second the Skullcandy recommendation. The ones I have, I've had now for about 2-3 years. They aren't your typical plastic/rubber tubing insulating the wires, they've got some type of a durable mesh around them. I get them snagged on crap all the time; rip them out of my ears, rip the jack out of my device, etc. and I've never had an issue with them. Sound quality is very good for a very moderate price.

Tried the S4i's when the Bose I normally used died. Didn't like them much, probably because they didn't seem to fit my ears as well. In fact, I gave those to one of my kids and ran down to the Bose outlet store to avail myself of the lifetime warranty on the broken Bose earbuds. With a new set in hand, I'm happy again :^)
