The Hair Thread. Body. Face. Head.

Have you seen that TV ad for the men's body shaver? Three hot girls, one says a little on the chest but none on the back, another says hairless abs, third says "she likes her men completely hairless and no she doesn't think that's weird".

When I stopped laughing, I started wondering. How common is it for men to shave their body hair? Why do they do it, how do they do it, doesn't it just mean ingrown hairs? Have you ever been bothered by your own body hair? What do women actually think about hairy or hairless guys?

Personally, I spend a few minutes a day shaving my face, except on vacations and weekends, and that's about it. I've never thought about shaving anything else. I'm vain, but also lazy. Seems like a lot of work. And I've never known anyone who cared.

I know some of us here - well, one of us - shave our legs, but I believe for him that is a cyclist thing rather than a body image thing, though I could be wrong, look?

If we want to broaden the topic a bit, let me ask - how much attention do you give to your hair, overall, and that primarily means head and beard/stache?

1 minute a day and the cheapest shampoo WalMart sells? Or 10, 20 minutes a day and all sorts of hair product?

If your hair is getting grey or thin, do you do anything about it, or do you care at all?

How about razors - are you a shaver connoisseur, or still wielding the $0.99 disposable?

Talk hair here. Styles, care, hang ups, lack of. Whatever. Ladies can contribute if they like.

Hair, a little on the chest and legs, not so much on the back. Clean shaven, trac II razor, mug of soap and a brush. I prefer the head on my hair short. It is thick and wavy, they will bury me with a full head of hair, unless I am in a fire or something. Regular shampoo, no hair products generally.

I guess it depends on how much hair you have and where it's located...

I've shaved my body a few times, for the hell of it. Former wife liked the hair, but always seemed a bit more frisky when I was "smooth" (talking upper torso, boys--get yer minds out of the gutter). Also, when I was very fit, the definition was more visible sans hair.

Never have shaved my arms/legs. I'm a ginger, and my arm/leg hair is kinda golden/blonde/red, so even though I'm pretty damn hairy, it blends into my skin color and you really can't see it. VERY hairy chest/abdomen. New wife loves my hair, but I'm the first guy she's ever been with who is/was hairy. Luckily, no hair on the back...yet.

Head...Used to have GREAT hair that I very much took care of (dark red, almost brown). Started going thin, so shaved it all off and keep it that way for the past 5-6 years now.

Facial hair...while in the Army, no facial hair. Once I got out, I tried it all--full beard, just a goatee, VERY long goatee when I was living in the Middle East, etc. Now that I'm back in the Army part-time (reservist), I shave it all off once a month, and between drill weekends, I let it grow.

I shave my neck, in the shower by feel, that's it. I rinse my hair every day when I shower. Wash it with shampoo twice a week and use a little product daily because it's grey and grey hair has a a crazy texture. I look like Einstein if I don't use something, my hair is long. I trim my beard every other day as it grows fast and I would look like a Rabbi by the end of the week if I didn't.

At 50 I keep my gray hair short and wash daily. I shave every other day with simple disposable razors and am also forced to contend with nose/eyebrow hair 1x a week. Back and shoulder hair is becoming more of an issue which I address 2x a month. Used to shave legs when I was doing the bicycle road racing thing but that was a long time ago. Wife would kill me if I shaved my chest.

I'm not a particularly hairy guy, but I've gotten more so as I've gotten older. My wife likes for me to trim the body hair down to three eights of an inch or so. After doing it a few times, I admit it looks better, so I do trim it once in a while. At my age, I need to also trim the old ear, nose, and eyebrown hair to look decently presentable too. Also tends to make me look slightly younger - at least that's what I think.

Depends... am I able to braid it?

Nothing wrong with a little man hair but, it shouldn't resemble carpet. One guy I dated..wow..he was hairy.... and coming from a hairly italian, it must've been really bad if its remarkable.

I "Jan-scape"... but, I'm a chick, it's the norm.

I was in SuperCuts the other day and a customer about my age asked me if I was in for "a color". WTF? My hair is mostly gray. I couldn't care less. Guess I need to find an old fashioned barber.

I shave every day. Mug and brush. Always Gilette blades.

I've seen some scary things. Cute girls with underbrush so thick you could clean your golf cleats on it. Yikes. It's not 1970 anymore.

I got the hairy Italian curse. Although none on my back thank god. The worst part is my legs. Ron jeremy laughs at me. Ive never shaven them or anything , but ive taken hair clippers and trimmed them down in the warmer months. Facial hair, i shave probably every other day. I personally think i look better with the Don Johnson, Miami Vice look, but the wife likes it smooth.

I'm not a very hairy guy, shave every 3 days with a Gillette Mach 3 razor and Nivea shaving gel. Head hair is gray on the sides, no coloring, no hair gel, heck you're lucky if I comb it. No chest hair to really speak of, so of course no back hair. Ear and nose maybe every 2 months. Pubes, au natural.

Somehow, I don't think my hair is the deal breaker.

Leg hair, in 99% of it's forms, is acceptable.. it's the back that kills me(and almost all women).

The only thing that has avoided grooming is the arm hair..I've considered throwing it into the routine but, I feel like arms w/o hair are creepy.

I still have lots of hair on my head and my own eyebrows (NOT painted on, yuck)..good enough, right?

Hope this doesn't blend into the "I cut my sack" thread...
