Finger proof fan

We need to purchase fans where I work and they need to be finger proof. It doesn't matter if it is at the nurse station or in the residents room it has to have a guard that is fine enough that you cannot stick a pencil in it. We had been able to get them at Ace hardware but the manufacturer has stopped making them. I did some searching but not much comes up for a search on fine grill fan or finger proof fan other than small cooling fans for equipment. Any ideas?

dyson makes a bladeless fan, I think they're pretty spendy...

I have one of the Dyson's. Won it at a Golf Tourney.

Too pricey in my opinion ( $300 retail) but it is a great fan. Nice amount of air, very cool looking, tilts and rotates. It is not as quiet as I would have thought.

We looked at those but the price is prohibitive when you have to buy 20 at a time.

The grill appears that the holes may be too large if you count the openings and divide by width, but will check it out to be sure. Thanks.

How about this... A friend of mine has one on her desk. I delighted in sticking my finger in it. It put out a nice little breeze and absolutely was finger safe. The blades are made of cloth...

I wonder what the DIA inspectors will think of that, there is no grill for them to measure . Another good one to check out.

Look at a Seville tower fan. Can't stick a pencil in that.

You would think so, but sadly not true.

But you can use a metal office trash can over your head and get a similar effect then use the Dyson to show the mastery of force wind.

They are looking at a couple of these as options, thanks.

I need to ask:

If a resident or nurse does not realize that sticking their fingers in a fan is bad, do we really want them caring for others?

Fingerless Fan

Probably not what you had in mind.

Used to always play with the front side. The back side, now that'll hurt a bit.

You see, when I was a kid, fans looked like this:

They made cool noises with playing cards too, like in bike spokes.

The nurses aren't the issue (as far as the fans go, we won't get into the other issues causing my faith in humanitiy to wane), and for that matter the residents aren't really either. There are a few that would stick their fingers in just as a toddler would. It is the DIA and state regulations that require the fine grill on the fans just as we cannot have a power strip with a plastic body but the uninteruptible power supply bodies are plastic and acceptable.

What's wrong with someone getting hurt because they were careless?

Isn't that part of evolution?
