Are people impressed by exotic cars? (Golddigger video)

Pick-Up Prankster Puts Target Through the 'Gold Digger Test'

This video is funny, but it does raise an interesting topic.
I know the average age on this forum must be 40s and 50s, and most are probably married and not actively dating....

What has been your experience with your P-car and strangers (or better yet, close friends)
Even though a used 911 costs less than a new Accord, people just don't see it that way.
Any interesting anecdotes or incidents where things turned out differently than when you are driving your Honda or Chevy?

In my experience, many women are turned off by the "douchebag" in the fancy car.
Then again, I don't live in a glamour town like LA.

depends on location. and the car.

my '62 TR4. TOTAL cougar magnet. no other age groups care about it (certainly not girls my age)

my 911, in the Midwest....some girls liked it, some couldn't care.

the Ferrari, in LA. girls love it. they don't know it's almost 20 years old...they assume it's newer. lots of gold-digging types dig that one.

Color can have a lot to do with it. This hot yellow '44 was annoyingling chick magnetic.

My much nicer, but more obscure colored 944, doesn't have the same effect. I much prefer this car, as I enjoy it, but it gets less attention. Mostly just from other males when it is at gas stations.

I had the keys to a bright yellow Miura once, and...@_@

Not for me.

A current model BMW convertible, will get both extra attention, and extra aversion.

People are also very brand conscious, and people can you treat you like you are driving an expensive car, when you are driving a $4,000 Porsche, and they have a $40,000 Toyota Hybrid...such is life...

Just watched the video, the girl went from having no idea about the guy, to having a slightly better idea about the guy. I am much more likely to be friendly to a girl I don't know, at a track if she out of the blue starts talking to me, vs if I were walking through a public area, as the location, tends to show there may be at least one common interest.

No dating for me, married mid aged guy. But if I am at a light in my econo car or SUV, I am invisible to women. As soon as I am in the 993, I am worth a look, especially at a light, where they may not be able to make out the model year quickly.

I sure am glad I got hitched before I had anything. When I am at bar with buddies, first thing that usually comes out of any ladies mouth is "what do you do for a living". I tell them I am an auto-mechanic. That gets them on their way quickly and I can get back to my pals.

My 2 911's never really got much attention.......

Totally different with my 1960 190 SL.......People come out of the woodwork, both men and women.....They honk and wave, do a U-turn to come back to my coffee shop and take pictures. I had a Cougar stand up in and crowded restaurant and ask who owed the "Cute white car"......

Chicks hated my 911. No forced air, loud, cramped, butch seats- they think Porsche means luxury. In reality it's not a really good day-to-day car. It also created a lot of stiff-upper-lips. Guys won't act phased (until you catch them next week shopping for one) and no chick wants to be labeled a shallow gold-digger so they pooh-pooh the idea of a nice car- as if it's beneath them to care.

(It's all BS I know, they brag to their GF's about their man's money and how hard u rock them all the time cuz they are pigs around other women but in front of you or other guys they act like they couldn't care less. Stupid ****.)

Otherwise, the only people talking to you about it are other Porsche geeks. It's just a car, you know. Buy it for yourself.

Ha ha, this one has burnt me as well. I remember talking up a few girls before I was with Traci, and within minutes after letting the cat out of the bag, they were gone, not interested.
To hell with them. I'm a gearhead, I didn't buy a porsche to impress anyone, and I much prefer to be somewhere out on a back road letting her rip all by myself, rather than in traffic with people staring at me.

That is my thought pattern as well.

I don't have many women approach me but I get more comments from the El Camino than the 911. At the gas station there was one girl that could not be much over 21 just loving my El Camino. I think she was a motor head because she was driving a 66 split window Vette. I admired her car as well.

Ernie is the babe magnet. Shot from the Tail of the Dragon:

I get more compliments on Ernie than the car. Its a hoot to see the double-takes from other people when driving down the road with him in there.

I have to wonder how much of this negativity some of you are "experiencing" is actual, and how much is just in your imagination. You are driving a car and concerned with what others are thinking about, and whether they are looking at you, and why. Hmmm.

A few days ago after I just had help putting on my new hood I pulled up to a stop light where three 16-18 year old girls in short shorts were crossing the street (all blondes - as if uniformed).

One looked over and got all excited about my car telegraphing it via body language and hand gestures as they walked by talking to each other.

As I turned the corner they were obviously reacting to the car, my reaction was that I'm glad I finally got that new hood on, let's get a car wash, and go to the cigar lounge.

Any other reaction by me I'm sure would have been socially unacceptable, but they were free to act and react as suited them.

I say children react the most positively towards the car followed by other guys and lastly women.

Danger zone when dealing with teens either male or female as they have no concept of appropriateness or personal limits. I have had some hilarious but brief conversations with young male admirer's, I'm the old man with a dozen one liners of twisted wisdom.

Young boys got the most excited about the 911 when I had it then older men, then women. I got more positive comments from women about my miatas than I did the 911.

Wow, did you really leave that one that wide open!?!?!?!?!?

I get crap from family all the time about my vehicles. I finally had to sit down and show my delusional father that the purchase price of all 4 of my vehicles totalled about 1/2 his Camry Hybrid.

People always think the Jag is more expensive and Newer than it is.....and it's definitely a cougar magnet.

My experience with the 911 is that it is a dude-magnet. Women don't even realize that it is anything other than a black car.
