Fishing Season Opens!!!

OK, I am so glad fishing season is open!!!! But.... every year they open fishing season right during spring spawn. WTF... The fish around here bite like mad this early in the season and the streams and rivers are very busy. (lakes are still ice covered). WHY???? I so badly want to take the stepson out but for the life of me can't understand why you don't wait till after spawn to open the season?? Anybody smarter than me (that means most of you ) care to venture a reason for doing so? (or share your rant!!)

I can't answer your question but.........I'll add a different take to the rant:
Why in the world people get enjoyment from the torture of an animal, is beyond me?

Because it's still illegal to torture humans, in the states anyway.

We fish, because that's where our past generations obtained their food.

It's like "why does siting in front of a camp fire seem so natural" and comforting, as it's been ingrained into our DNA since caveman days.

Just because we fish, doesn't mean we kill..........you can catch and release all day long with a barbless hook.

try hunting with a barbless bullet.?

Something is special about fly fishing, to present a fly to a trout, play the fish, then release.

I don't have a problem with killing the animal although I'd rather not do that either. It's the cycle of life. All things die and if you eat it, at least it dies for a purpose.
I have a problem with the terror this fish might experience while you're "playing " with it. That thought keeps me from doing it. Others obviously don't care and that's ok. I just don't get it.

Game fish season opens the first saturday in may here in Wisconsin but the spawning season usually falls in april so the spawn is mostly over by then. Panfish bite like crazy year round but the smallies and walleye are pretty smart.

It rained last saturday so out 11 year old and I didn't gt out. Maybe this weekend. Our 3.5 year old has been practicing as well. Don't know how that will go.

No ****! Theres no fishing 'season' here......but it is that time of year when the bites start coming a little more frequently....bought some new line and a castnet the other day....probably get out to the tidal marsh next weekend.....if it's legal size and I catch it, it gets brought home, fileted and eaten. I throw my crab pot out a good bit as well.......mmmmmmmm blue crab....

We are not allowed to catch game fish during April as it is spawning season for most game fish. We can fish for non-game fish all year long. I don know there are a few lakes enar us that have no minimum size because the lakes are getting over populated with small mouth bass. I like that because if our daughter catches a 13.5" smallie she can keep it if she can land it. We still throw the smaller ones back but don't have to worry about that inch or half inch.
