We own a base 2008 Cayman. Bought it new in Aug 2007 and have about 45k on the clock. Simply awesome. Lightly optioned with rain sensor/mirror dimmers, bi-xenon lights, Bose, colored wheel caps, heated seats, and sport steering wheel. White ext/gray int.

You can find base models with a 6 speed manual as it was an option, but probably very rare.

Would I like more power and a sixth gear? I guess, but you can always have more if you pay for it. I've never been one of those guys who wants to be the fastest on the street and drive like a maniac. Trust me, the experience of driving a Cayman back and forth just to pick up a loaf of bread is completely rewarding due to its build quality, the sound, and the feel. I've driven it cross country and on mountain roads and it is phenomenal. I think the base Cayman is the best bang for the buck in the Porsche lineup. I think it is more exclusive than a new 911 due to the low production numbers. I also own a 1988 911 Cab so I think I have the best of both worlds.

I recommend the Porsche rear hatch sun screen. Cuts down on heat and has minimal rearward restriction. Also installed the Euro safety triangle sold by Suncoast Porsche.

Good luck.

Oh, average about 18 in the city and 29 on the highway...a/c is always on...

This is generally how I feel. I don't drive like a maniac - I have gone on fun runs and I'm usually either in the middle or back of the group if I'm not lost cause I was going to slow.

Wife says I drive like a grandpa in a buick and when she's in a hurry to get somewhere it really irks he. :D

I do like to step on it and run it through the gears. It is the only civilized way to go get a loaf of bread or that thing you forgot at home depot or something.

I love your new car bud! Well done.

Sweet! 07 Cayman is a fantastic car. If you are free, bring it by Frisco's Carhop Saturday June 1 and show the fellas. :)

Congrats Mike! Beautiful machine.

She took it for a drive today up to Pasadena. She was way later getting back than she had said she would be. :)

Not to rain on your parade - that rear rotor looks like it has quite some ridges / wear. I'd measure them to check if they are out of spec and see if they can't replace the rears under their warranty. At the rate you are driving, the 1k miles will be up next week! :)

Let' see if the other OCD guys agree?

Yes, Capt. Buzzkill - that's been noted as the most likely first maintenance project outside of the oil change. The fronts don't have the ridges but they do have some wear. Considering it is a wear item I didn't expect them to cover it. I was also considering an upgrade to the larger components...but I hadn't done the research on that yet.

First thing's first I need to find a good maintenance book on the Cayman.

I love this car. It's missing a few things I've come to really like but the biggest thing is a bluetooth enabled radio. I'll live - I didn't realize it until this afternoon when my wife was getting the dashboard run down prior to her drive today. She asked me about the radio and I knew it worked but I hadn't had it on since I bought the car because me and my boys preferred to listen to the engine. :D

aigel 05-12-2013 08:05 PM

See, I told you so, now you want the S brakes! ;)

Seriously though, if those disks are below spec, they are not safe and should be covered under warranty. The ridges, if the low spots are still in spec, I am not sure

An aftermarket radio with bluetooth and front USB isn't going to break the bank. I put a basic JVC into my Sequoia and it works as well as a factory bluetooh / hands free radio.

A lot of the boxster maintenance should apply directly. Doesn't Wayne have a 100 projects for your boxster out?

Nice pickup, great color combo.

I love this car.

We've had my wife's Cobalt Blue base Cayman since it was new. Bought it in December 2006. It's my wife's daily driver and has about 75k miles on it now. It's is such an awesome car. It's tight and rattle free, it has the most brilliant and neutral chassis chassis I've ever encountered in any street car, it is reasonably quick once into the meat of the powerband above 4000 RPM, and is simply beautiful.

Congrats, man. You made an excellent choice.

KevinTodd 05-31-2013 10:46 AM

Love the car, love the colors in and out. Enjoy!
