Geographic Guide to the Sheetholes of SoCal

I'm curious about the bad areas in the L.A. basin - they don't seem to be the ones with the worst pollution (which tends to blow east into the mtn.s - e.g. Redlands).

We all know about Compton and South-Central, but I was talking to an attractive blonde yesterday and places like Bellflower, Downey (Home of MM!) and some other places came up as sources of patients for her (she's a 3rd yr Res. - ER doc).

Every area has its bad side except Beverly Hills. Long Beach is right at the top. But the real sheetholes are out in the desert like Barstow. Down around the Salton Sea are some real dirtbags.

There's a few Million dollar homes in Downey. But overall It's not that upscale. Long Beach can go from Posh to Poverty in a block or two

Lakewood is just straight middle. Look a little to the South and things start getting better. Brea, La Habra, Fullerton ( Fullerton has good side of the tracks and other side of the tracks), Seal Beach, Rosmore, Los Alimitos, Huntington Beach (Not Huntington Park) and further south.

The larger the city, the more smaller pockets of siht hole (and some big ones). It just depends, and you just have to know. Downey is ok, Bellflower is just, well, all right and nothing to write home about. Mostly working class hispanics but across the fwy in Cerritos, it is nice.

Where is the gate in South gate?

Is there a brook in Willowbrook?

Is there a spring in Santa Fe Springs?

Palmdale never had palm trees. The original german settlers misidentified Joshua trees as palm trees. the town was originally called Palmenthal.

Had two kids come into the cockpit on a flight out of John Wayne Orange County. They lived in nearby Lemon Grove and I asked them if they knew why their city was named Lemon Grove. They didn't know so I told them. They said, "NUH-UHH!"

Since Diego got shot, they've become sans-Diego.

And Buena Park is no bueno after dark.

Once upon a time SoCal was like this:

There's really no bad sides in Newport Beach. Or Irvine.
