Nurburgring goes on sale on Wednesday 15th May 2013
Current Status:
The state owned Nürburgring has filed for bankruptcy with around 400 million Euro of debts vs estimated 100 million Euro of assets, it is now looked after by a liquidator. The theme park (est. 330 million Euro) is only 3 years old (opening July 2009), but apparently worth only a fraction of the investment. The NAG - Jörg Lindner's and Kai Richter's "Nürburgring Automotive GmbH" - has finally left, after intense blame and negotiations. They are still running the "Eifeldorf" gastronomy and the two "Lindner" hotels. The Ring's homepage and Facebook site is now run by the insolvency administration. They are pushing hard to sell the Nürburgring, not only the new facilities, but the two race tracks (Nordschleife, GP Circuit) as well. Otto Flimm of ADAC (the auto club that runs races at the ring) - supported by many motorsport organisations - insists, the racetracks need to stay in public ownership and protests heavily against the over-hasty sale. The price estimate is 150,million to 250,million euros!

Sorry misread a post I read!
Should be 150 million to 250 million euros This is from a German paper today... http://www.rhein-zeitung.de/regional...id,596368.html The tender is to begin on Wednesday (May 15) with displays in the "Handelsblatt" and the "Financial Times" - read on the website Nürburgring – Motorsport, Events, Touristenfahrten, Fahrerlebnisse, MICE & Freizeitangebote an der legendären Rennstrecke in der Eifel. Erlebe den Mythos Nordschleife und die moderne Formel 1-Grand-Prix-Strecke!*- Nürburgring . According to CEO Thomas Schmidt and redevelopment administrator Jens Lieser there are already many prospects for the race track. The company also has an oversized amusement park, which was built and paid for with tax money for 330 million euros. The red-green state government wants to get the two race tracks in coordination with the European Commission for all visitors permanently accessible and affordable. According to Schmidt and Lieser investors can buy the whole system or only economically meaningful parts, such as the race track, the four-star hotel, the party mile Green Hell or the holiday park Drees. A total of six such "cluster" they have defined. Fans in the Facebook group "Yes to the Nürburgring", who oppose the sale, on the other hand, require dramatic look, showing at the upcoming 24-hour race flag. There is to be expected with a flood of stickers and banners. __________________

The "theme park" is a badly named group of facilities which include a disco club, a fan shop, a hotel, a shopping mall, a museum and a non-functional roller coaster by the start finish straight of the F1 track.
You can see these in my video

A roller coaster at the 'Ring sounds kind of redundant.

Somehow I don't think we have the ducats for a Pelican group buy, even if Wayne chips in and sells a 962 or two. The guys over on F-chat, however...

Watched the video of the 2 guys that don't want private, for-profit ownership of the 'ring.
Track was fiscally mismanaged by local politicians and couldn't make money. Mismanagers throw additional hundreds of millions of euros at problem, track continues to lose money and is now insolvent. Videographers want track to remain under the stellar stewardship of same political dumbasses that put track into receivership. The main reason is to ensure the locals have "their" track to play on. All locals polled agree and want to keep everything as it was. Did anyone ask the locals if they are willing to pay more, probably much more for their birthright of driving the ring? I am willing to bet they wouldn't be willing to shoulder the extra costs. What a horrible slap in the face to have a private investment group, or heaven forbid "a Chinese auto company" come in and save the facility. Everybody wants status quo and extras until it screws up their track time or costs them money. If no private monies save the track and the accompanying hotels, restaurants etc. that can then stand on their own financially, the entire complex will get shut down. It seems to me that the locals would prefer shut down then sale to a private company that deems a profit necessary. My opinion, but I'm am bidding on the whole enchilada. Do you think they will "take a check?"

From the Bridge to Gantry web site http://bridgetogantry.com/2/index.ph...erburgring-now
Yesterday Nürburgring officially announced the beginning of the 'investor process' here and today, May 15th, it's all become frighteningly real. You can apply to buy the Nürburgring right now with information you will find here. It's a process that starts right now, but according to the documents the end isn't in sight until Spring 2014. What's also made clear is that this process will NOT affect any bookings or events this season. Potential parties have until June 14th to register an official interest in the procedings through Frankfurt based firm KPMG. Official offers are scheduled to be considered during Autumn this year and final negotiations due to take place this winter. Each and every part of the Nürburgring is for sale, though interested parties can make offers on pieces they want or the whole thing. Inside sources have put some rather interesting and obvious names in the mix, such as Hyundai, VAG and various bluechip investment firms. The process will apparently be 100% fair and transparent, so expect more details on other interested 'investors' soon.
