Who Is Your Modern Day Hero And Why
For me it has to be the astronaut. Kissing your family goodbye as you begin a journey by sitting on a bomb and then going to the most inhospitable place for a human.
My hat goes off to all those brave men and women from all nations.

The unknown graduate student/post-doc that sits in a lab all night working on seemingly benign research projects who pours his life into something that eventually changes the world, without the majority of the world ever knowing who that person is.
There are a lot of things that have had the fundamentals of their foundations engineered by single people whose names never become household terms like Kardashian or Kanye but who have greater impact on everyday human life than 99.9% of all who have ever lived. I'm talking things like the transistor. Guys like Linus Torvalds. C and C++ were largely originally defined by two people, and works as a basis to program for a large percentage of your EVERYDAY LIFE. I'm using tech examples here, but it extends to other things. Often there are engineering challenges overcome with vast numbers of people and corporate structure, but my heroes are the people who do it by themselves.

There are so many, but one that popped into my head is the people who work and take care of people with special needs. Not the one that have to do it for a living but those who chose to do it. God knows I can't do that job.

Toss up between my Dad and my Twin brother - both are selfless and very generous with all they have including time. Niether are judgemental and both have an amazing outlook on life.

Perhaps not modern day but my father deceased in 1967 and was a Lancaster bomber pilot in WW2 and did two tours of ops and helped bring the war to an end sooner.
Also the many who served in WW2. Also Churchill and Roosevelt who helped in our having the freedoms we have today. RIP |

Not into hero worship but Sully sure did it right. Competent, articulate, calm, cool, collected. Yeah, a lot went his way that day but he pulled it off expertly and made America understand what these pilots and cabin crews truly get paid to do.
