Anybody Know Anything About Subwoofer Plate Amplifiers?
I have a 12" 500 Watt Speakercraft Tantra Subwoofer in my home theater system. The plate amplifier (integrated into the box) went belly up and developed a loud, continuous buzz. I have had it diagnosed fully by an electronics repair shop as officially dead.
Speakercraft, apparently used some sort of one-off amplifier for this model (TS-12) of subwoofer, so there isn't a replacement that fits the opening correctly. My plan is to just find a replacement plate amplifier and run the wire from the woofer through a tiny hole I will drill in the back of the box, to the new plate amplifier. The whole system sits in behind speaker mesh in a cabinet, so esthetics are not important. In looking through Parts-Express.com, there are some Dayton, Yung and Bash plate amplifiers at various power levels. Does anyone have any recommendations on one of those, or another alternative that would provide reliable, high quality sub power? Thanks, JA
