Funny Old Commercials you STILL Remember

NEWY! NEWY!

Kellogg's Puffa Puffa Rice Commercial, Late 60's
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oYKGmNegc0

The thread on the 70's car commercials gave me this idea. I will be 54 () in a couple of weeks and there are a few old commercials, national ones and local ones that i STILL remember. Its amazing to me that there is a plce you can go to see/hear all these old things.

To this day I can sing the Puff Puffa Rice commercail, complete with all the Hawaiian inflections, etc. I must have been about 11-12 when this was new. In my head I remember it fondly, then I see the actual commercial and it looks so damned old. Hmmm....I'm not that old, so how could that be?

I'll post a couple others when I find them.

Funny how we are about the same age, but I have no recollection of the Puff Puffa Rice commercial. Maybe it was a west coast ad? I didn't get to the west until 1968 from Mn.

It's Slinky!! I had two Slinky's and we used to race them down the stairs. Never get them tangled because they don't work so well when bent.

Haven't clicked on your link yet...honestly.

If I remember correctly, "Its Slinky, its Slinky, its fun for girls and boys. Its Slinky, its Slinky, everyone loves a Slinky." Im missing a line in there, but I can hear it in my head.

Yeah, Puffa Puffa Rice MAY have been a regional thing. I also remember Quisp and Quake cereals being introduced. Like Seinfled, I guees, breakfast cereal has been a big thing to me. I must be a rocket scientist, huh?

Funniest ad I ever saw was when a friend picked up a cheap VCR tape of vintage ads.

On it was Fred and Barney from the Flinstones selling cigarettes... I'm not sure what was funnier... the fact the wholesome cartoon characters were pounding cigs in their living-room... or that the cigs and the box of cigs were gigantic... or that Fred and Barney were puffing away extolling the virtues of fine tobacco.

One of the few times I was literally on the floor laughing.

Yup, I once saw an interview with Joe Barbera late in his life where they showed that to him. He was horrifed that it had ever been done. Believe it or not, I remember when The Flintstones were a NEW and the first prime time cartoon show in the early 60's. It was made for my generation. I loved it.

what about the one for dupont with the old larry bud melman from the letterman show look a like that promotes the effectiveness of his safety glasses? he was working on a lathe the way he told it and "all of a sudden a piece snapped off and hit me glasses dead center. tank god i was wearin' em when it happened!" he said it in a very old school hard boston accent. good stuff! i often do an impression of the "snapped off dead center" portion and now and again another 40-something will remember it and we have a good chuckle.

That's funny. for a very long time, all I remember was "Pussy cow" also. 2 weeks ago, we were having dinner with my wife's college friends, this song or commerical came up and this dude sang the whole song. That's when I finally got it. Its "Go see Cal" As a kid, like most, one just sleep through the commerical, and can only remember the tunes. Years ago, on an over night fising trip, we were singing and humming old commericals and old TV theme songs. It was fun. What geeks we are.

Pete Ellis Dodge Long Beach freeway Firestone exit, South Gate.

Remember that one? Every time I see the Firestone exit on the 710, I always singing it inside. Now that I think about it, its kinda cool.

That's funny, that's all I remember growing up: "Pussy Cow, Pussy Cow, Pussy Cow". The Pete Ellis was a good jingle - you'd never forget it.

I remember the old Geno's pizza ads.... A straight laced announcer (holding up a box of the frozen pizza) says... "Recent polling indicates 9 of every 10 Americans LOVE our new frozen pizzas..."

The camera pulls back, and there are 9 Italian looking guys, and standing by himself, is a Chinese looking guy.

It would never have been shown in these P.C. times....
