Are you a snob?

Would anyone consider themsleves a "snob". I mean in the way that you only would partake in a partical thing/ brand and look down on anything else?

Such as..

Beer snob
coffee snob
food snob
vehicles..
tools..
etc, etc...

One of my friends jokingly called me a Coke snob, because I refuse to drink anything but Coca Cola.

I honestly cant think of anything id call myself snobish about.

wdfifteen 05-22-2013 07:25 AM

I don't think so, but I went to college. Rick Santorum thinks I'm a snob for that.

Por_sha911 05-22-2013 07:31 AM

Coffee snob and proud of it.

stomachmonkey 05-22-2013 07:32 AM

Some things yes, some things no.

If you only drink Coca Cola because you prefer the taste your friends assertion is incorrect.

If you only drink Coca Cola because you think it improves your status or social standing then yes.

Smooth Jazz is not jazz, and Modern Country is not country.

Not that I'm disdainful of newfangled stuff... :p

It's called having preferences.

Nothing to do with snobbery unless a comment (or comments) are made in association with said preferences.

Snobbery: "All soft drinks suck except for Coke - which is what I drink."

Preference: "I prefer the taste of Coke to other soft drinks on the market."

I suppose the demeanor in which such statements are made would also infer snobbery or simply preference.

I'd like to think everyone has preferences......life would be rather bland without it.

I'm relatively close to being a Toyota snob. When it comes to a truck/daily driver/reliable family vehicle, I don't really see myself looking too far outside of Toyotas and there are some vehicles I wouldn't even consider even thought they would probably be perfectly fine. I fully admit that I am the victim of advertising/confirmation bias/whatever, but I have owned a Toyota of one sort or another (sometimes mutliple Toyotas at one time) continuously since 1987 and every single one of them has been outstanding.

I am also somewhat of a snob regarding Gibson electric guitars.

OK, it sounds like it's time for a 12 step program or something... ;)

vash 05-22-2013 08:09 AM

you called?

i think i am a snob..but i know i am judgmental as eff!

gorthar 05-22-2013 08:15 AM

Thinking about it, I guess I could consider myself a racing snob. I consider NASCAR so cheesy and contrived that I can only laugh at it. Its not as if the drivers aren't talented because I'm sure they are...I just can't stand it. If it isn't Formula one or Le Mans/Road Racing I'm not interested. I'm a wine and cheeser I guess...even though I don't even drink wine lol.

I'm not sure I'm a coffee snob, definitely not in the, "I only go to Starbucks or trendy coffee shops" kind of way. I like good coffee but, I will drink anything if I have to and I don't like fancy coffee drinks..just.good.coffee.

I've become a tits snob. Dont ask.

i call that a "tickler"..:)

redstrosekNic 05-22-2013 08:29 AM

Depends on what kind of stuff you're talking about. Stuff for the Pcars, I try to stay with the good stuff. My family also shops at Aldi. Certain things matter, and other things don't.

Zeke 05-22-2013 08:32 AM

Soda pop snob? That's funny right there.

aigel 05-22-2013 08:51 AM

Food snob. No junk food for me, specifically nasty meats like hamburgers, hot dogs and other ground up garbage. ;)

I've been told I'm a beer snob since I would prefer a good beer over a Bud Light.

Just the opposite. I take pride in getting my money's worth and enjoy finding a generic or lower priced item that can do as well as the high priced snob-bait.
I cringe when I hear people say "you get what you pay for" and wonder who the hell they are trying to impress.

Case in point:
I buy gas at a local arco station. Across the street is a shell station and the shell prices are typically 30 to 40 cents per gallon higher, for the exact same gas. Yet people will line up to pay more.

And here's the funny part: as of June 1st, both of those stations will be owned by the same company and the gas will come from the same refinery, but the price differential will remain due to marketting strategies.

2nd case: I authorize the purchase around $50k worth of tools per year at work and I never approve anything made by snap-on. Overpriced hype. There are many brands of tools that are just as good for half the money.

RANDY P 05-22-2013 08:57 AM

yeah, actually. I overmaintain cars when I'm not building 'em. Tune up parts are all OEM on everything- even the floor mats. Only good stuff goes into cars, period. (quality)

Cars- I will go to the grave driving nothing but REAL German cars, and GM products. Currently have 2x old MBZ (quality) and two old GM (hot-rod quality)

Clothing- good brand name clothes last a long long time, I have my preferences there as well. (quality)

Tools- a combo of craftsman and Snap-ON, the warranty. (quality, warranty)

Quality is where it's at. I fear for the fact that we're going to a disposable society. Harder to find good stuff....

I get accused of being an elitist / snob but then again, my stuff never breaks, and lasts forever. Quality.

.

Pretty much my way of thinking also.

The "coke snob" thing was just a joke by a friend.

As far as stuff like beer and coffee, Yuengling is my fave, but if you hand me a Rolling rock or Bud i'll drink it. Same with coffee I'll drink anything.
