"I authorize the purchase around $50k worth of tools per year at work and I never approve anything made by snap-on. Overpriced hype. There are many brands of tools that are just as good for half the money."
Sammy, have you ever used Snap-On tools? I'll admit Joe Schmoe doesn't need them to work on his Murray mower this weekend. But a case can be made for judging a mechanic by the tools in his box. But I guess if you have to buy their tools they're not traditional mechanics. Jim |
I spent too much time in this great nations military to be a snob about anything. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good cigar and beverage now and then, but my usual drink is a Labatts and a inexpensive hand rolled cigar. If the hand rolled cigar makes me a snob, than that is too bad as I get them cheaper than machine made cigars. I am all about making my money go as far as I can.

You'll quickly find that you'll be using that warranty often. I wouldn't trust those hand tools for anything requiring serious torque. You'll either round off the fastener when it slips off, of the socket and wrench will come apart / won't stay together. I've had my craftsman tools for well over a decade now, well before the era of Harbor Freight.. HF is good for shop rags, cheap screwdrivers, C clamps, cutting wheels are good, and breaker bars. I actually like those :) |

I will never buy another craftsman ratchet. Sloppy, loose, poorly made knuckle busters. (Didn't used to be that way). Crawl under a car with a craftsman ratchet, you'll be crawling out for a better tool in just a few minutes. I have a 3/8 HF ratchet that does a better job than a my craftsman, (but my 3/8 snap-on is the go-to tool.)
It's not a matter of snobbery, it's a matter of utility. |

I like Snap on socket wrenches, except when trying to remove the socket with a greasy hand. Sucks. rjp |
Discerning is correct. I don't eat fast food or watch tv. Life is too short for that. I do wear Costco clothes and make similar value purchases

I am a snob when it comes to snobs. ;)

Hate to say it, but if anyone cares what anyone thinks about what they purchase, they are a snob. I particularly like the comment stating the guy is not a snob, but he has a weakness for Ferrari. This, and being a snob, is not a good thing. It is an ********* thing. I just don't understand why anyone cares what someone else thinks about the type of coffee, car, clothes . . . that anyone else buys.

There are those who appreciate finer detail. THe very fact we are all are / were Porsche owners shows that we have an appreciation for driving, moreso than say a Honda owner.
Face it, when you turn on the TV and see the sheeple getting turned on throwing a Ford Fusion around some cones in a parking lot, do you say to yourself: "Wow! How awesome that FOrd must be FUN!! " Or you just laugh, shut it off, and go to the garage and stare at the purpose-built machine in there that is intended for less than 1% of the motoring population who can actually use it? "Snob" is usually an accusation thrown around by people who don't appreciate detail in things, nor care..... Of course let's not confuse"poseur" it's a different thing as well- owning a high dollar item without having a clue about it. We all know those exist too.. rjp (Who likes to buy once, cry once) |

I am a man of wealth and taste...so what does that tell ya?
Quality is the name of the game, not price. I wear Luis Vuiton, Hermes, Lanvin, Emilio Zenga, Armani, Ralph Lauren Purple Label, Robert Talbott, Valentino and Hugo Boss Ties... |
I associate snobs more with people than with things.I was born in the UK and when I was there the snobbishness was associated with class the people came from. I left the UK many years ago and don't notice the overt snobbishness in North Amer. as much. In a way there is because of the putting down of people who live in trailers(the so called trailer trash). The snobbishness may come from the poseurs(as you call them) some of whom call the 911 the real Porsche. I don't get caught up in that.

Really? You put up a thread on a Porsche forum asking if people here are snobs?
Have you even read how other cars are referenced here? And the clincher is how the air cooled snobs look down on any liquid cooled Porsches. Yeah, most of us are snobs. And that includes me. |
