Dammm, how big are those intake valves?
I'm surprised they run H-beam rods 'cause of the windage, unless maybe it's a dry sump ....... |

I would have thought that engine would have domed rather than dished pistons for higher compression ratio. What kind of rpm will it be spinning and what kind of horsepower is this engine going to produce?

I imagine that the lift and duration of the cam necessitates a set of pistons that are dished to the exact shape of the heads. Otherwise, it would be an interference engine.

check the combustion chamber sizes, basically just valve pockets. Domed pistons disrupts airflow and the burn. The piston reliefs are not just for valve clearance, it is effectively the combustion chamber. Last edited by romad; 05-23-2013 at 09:31 AM.. |

Just remember, assembly is the reverse of disassembly.
Well, unless you blew up the motor on the track. Then I hope you have some sort of shop manual.

These are so simple compared to what I'm used ie Porsche Engines, my wrench is a V8 guru. This a whole new beast, Block, Crank, Pistons, Rods, Valves, Springs act

LOL, last time I built a full race v8 I put in pistons that looked like this:

Well sammy, not all engines are hemi's.
I stopped by coupe's shop yesterday and saw what you see. In fact, I think I missed the picture session by minutes. The Ford block looks small and compact to me. I liked what I saw. They have installed roller bearings on the camshaft. It spins like a top with no lifters. Love to be there when they fire that puppy. |

That's a good thing. No way would mine last 500 miles.
I'd love to be able to take an older stock car and strip the weight out of it, what are they stock, 3200? Iffn you could get it down under 2500# with all that HP it'd be downright scary. Er. Scary-er. Prolly wouldn't be legal tho. |

If you need an extra hand I can be had cheap while I'm working to find work. I do know how to use a torque wrench as well as how to identify a grade 8 bolt.

You would need a sawzall to cut out the rollcage. there's not much in dead weight on these cars.

Guess that's why they can walk away from them 200 mph crashes. Guess that's also why those 1300# F1 cars cost $20 mil each. |

And if you could provide at least a partial list of items that could be safely removed to achieve an 800# redcution, I'd like to look. But if you are telling us that aluminum can be substituted for steel, well that's not news. |
