Battery Mat Question
The battery mat below is one of two, is 12 years old and has never been used.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1369334618.jpg The mat below has been in place for 12 years. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1369334449.jpg The residue (above and below) may be the result of the mat. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1369334583.jpg My questions are: what do the mats do? Are they useful? I did not use a mat on the left side and it was relatively clean. Thanks |
I believe the mats are supposed to neutralize any minor acid spills. You've got a pretty big overflow of acid going on there, beyond what the mat is going to help with (or is that baking soda?).

Kurt, not baking soda. I haven't started the cleanup yet. That battery was relatively undisturbed for twelve years. I'll have to see what is under the old mat before I decide to replace it or not.
