She almost looks bored playing it.

That's cool, and call me crazy, but when I was growing up lots of kids in my 'hood could play that pretty well by the time they were 14 or 15.

These were guys, not girls, but I don't think that makes much of a difference. Am I wrong in thinking there are many, many 14 year olds out there that can play that???

Color me jaded, but in this day and age of a 14 year old making the cut at the Masters, that guitar playing (while very cool!) doesn't seem very newsworthy for a 14 year old.

Not that impressive. She plays it too fast and without feeling.

I learned how to play it when I was 16.

She plays it ok, but I loathe that over processed phaser sound.

BTW, I don't think Eruption is even close to the most impressive or difficult thing EVH has played. For its time it shook the guitar world like a rag doll. But check out Mean Street, I'm the One, Somebody Get Me a Doctor, DOA and so many others on the first few albums. Those are 10x more difficult and, IMHO, cooler to listen to and play.

You guys are missing the point.

Sure she's got skills.

But who was it that wrote such a great song?

And when is the last time anyone wrote such great rock music?

Yes she's good. A little too fast as Nostril said. But let's hear someone who wrote a song that good......or better.

There are ton of Youtube videos of youngsters playing pretty difficult stuff. Ever see the young Japanese girl playing YYZ on the organ? Or the six year old boy crushing Hot For Teacher on drums? It's impressive, but the stuff that really blows me away are the songs I could never get right. For so long there was not one guy out there who could nail the solo for Little Fighter (White Lion). It's one of the toughest of the hair band metal era. Now a few of them can. VH stuff is no walk in the park, but it's so damn popular and so many people picked up their first guitar because of EVH, that his stuff is pretty well covered out there. My favorite one was a kid playing Drop Dead Legs and then nailing the overdubbed outro note for note.

Let's see it!

With the girl, make no mistake, I think it's impressive. Out of 1000 14 year old semi serious guitar player, how many could play that that well?

It's not going to be a huge number, but it's not going to be only 5 or 10, either.

It's not that the playing isn't impressive, to me, it's that 14 isn't that young. Like Rick says, there are some amazing musicians on guitar, drums, etc. in the 6-7 year range these days! A 14 year old is an old hand by today's standards.
