Show me your wine cellars
Mine is finally getting done. Small, but functional.
Doors are 25 inches wide each, the depth is around 20", and the interior runs the length of the entire wall. I won't use all the interior space only left and right stackables. I've just added the front racks today, I will work on the side (Left and Right) stacks next. French doors still need painting, but it won't look too different than this. Still need to get some cool french door handles. Wife says I can't have her little hall table. I reamed out the holes on these to make them a little larger so I could use concrete screws and screw them directly into the concrete wall. This is the first time for me drilling into concrete, I was a little hesitant, but everything worked perfect and after 16 holes I didn't even hit any re-bar.

Randy, the leave it in the box method was not working for me. Besides, the corked bottles should be stored horizontal and having stack-able cubes allows you to rotate your aged wine up for when ready to drink. I have a number of 2005 bottles that probably aren't going to get any better. But all my new purchases will be stored at the bottom and rotated up. I figure my wine cellar once completed will be able to hold between 150-200 bottles. Much more behind the cubicles if needed. |
Not pretty but functional. In a 4 ft basement crawl space on the north wall. I insulate with Styrofoam in the summer & remove it in the winter for reasonable temperature stability. I bought the racks from a hdwe store. 72 bottle racks for around $70.

Doug, for that application Tapcon screws would be adequate for sure, and they are self tapping in concrete no muss no fuss! Looks good btw!

I keep inventory on an Excel spreadsheet & online on CellarTracker. CT is great because you get other lay reviews of your wines & a drink-ability report based on various opinions. Not always to my taste - I like mature wines - but a good guide.

About 30 bottles, pretty much all Niagara except a few gifts. All the better wines that you can't get in the liquor store. We try to get out to the wineries at least twice a year. |

not the best of pics, space still in development, roughly 200 bottle rack with another 100 on the right side of view. On the left side is concrete space that will hold up too 20 barrels of wine. temps range from 42 in winter to 65 in summer. I am in partners with another person with 425 wine plants in the ground now 5 yrs. Last yr was first harvest and even thou birds caught us at the end of a week before harvest and ate over 25% crop ended up with 12 gal in storage which equals 5.3 cases of wine. Should double that this yr until full production of 1 ton of grapes is achieved which is 150 gal of wine per yr which would be 65 cases a yr. Since this is not a commercial venture just a consuming one, we should be good to drink one bottle a day for a long time and have a party or two now and then. The grapes we are growing are nebbiolo, sangiovese, dolcetto, Barbara, cab franc, cab sauvignon, merlot and petite syrah. |

BTW - it is not clear that corked bottles must be stored horizontally.
I agree that cardboard boxes are not really optimal for accessibility, and if I ever get the bottle count down below 1,000 I plan to make some wood racks up with my chop saw. |

actually nebbiolo is are strongest grape next to sangiovese, the Barbara and dolcetto got hit the hardest by frost, that is why we named our vineyard Jack Frost Vineyard.
