Crappy Meal!

So, I'm never the one to crap on another persons lively hood so please don't ask me the name of the place that I just ate at.

Joanna and I just had one of the crappiest meals! IT was at a BBQ place that we had never been to. Outside the food smelled great. We both tried a brisket plate with two sides. The brisket was the fattiest brisket yet was dried out from being smoked too long. This place had 4 home made sauces that sounded really tasty on the menu.

Well, they sounded tasty Joanna tried one and I tried another. both were more like a paste instead of a sauce I has steamed vegetables and sweet potato fries. Joanna had Garlic mashed potato's and Asparagus The side dishes I'm pretty sure that they came out of a freezer bag including the gravy for the potato's The asparagus was fresh but the ends uncut ends and had a dark smokey taste that over powered the food. To be honest I couldn't finish my food! As we where leaving someone asked me how the food was and I told them if I was the landlord I would start looking for my next tenant. First thing that I did when I got home? I brushed and flossed!

Well, your first mistake was thinking you could get good BBQ in California. Like trying to get good Mexican food in Cape Cod.

Yeah, I had some rubber ribs the other day......a recent addition to the local fare.
I suppose there is something worse than undercooked BBQ ribs.....rubber chicken maybe?
I won't go back there either.......

I work downtown in Houston. There is a BBQ place that has opened a couple of spots around downtown that I have heard has good breakfast stuff and burgers, but the time that I tried the BBQ, the brisket was like cardboard and the sausage was only a bit better.

Sounds like liquid smoke and crappy meat.
We slow smoke it for hours and hours here and hand pull the little remaining fat. We are in va though so ...

Dr. Hogly Wogly's, Pecos Bill's, Ribs USA and the Swingin' Door all have good BBQ here in the SF Valley.

I almost always cook at home and eat in. I have gotten tired of paying too much to eat in dirty environments, and getting mediocre service and mediocre food. I enjoy cooking and I pity those people who cannot not cook because they have little choice. And it is only going to get worse.

There is decent BBQ in California. We have our own style as well. Central Coast BBQ'ed Tri-Tip is some tasty stuff.

No, it wasn't liquid smoke.

I do cook 90% of the time at home and own my own smoker. I do not use gas nor matchlight charcoal. I light my charcoal with a propane torch if I'm in a rush or if I have a little more time I strive for the single match and kindling to set it off.

I've had BBQ in Dallas. I also have stopped at trailers set up along side of the road in places that most people would drive by This was just the worst attempt at a meal that I've ever had.
