Bangalore, India
Work trip coming up, Melbourne, Sydney, then Bangalore. My wife is coming along and we will visit her family in Sydney the first few days, then I go down to Melbourne to do some work for three days, then we move on to Bangalore for a week.
So does anybody have any tourist tips for Bangalore? First off, visiting the Taj Mahal is out. I need to be in the Bangalore area the whole time as my work schedule will be very fluid. (Although, we arrive in the early AM on. Friday and most likely wont work until Monday.) I wouldn't want to be more than 3 hours away, so anything on the coast is probably out as well. If we have two days to do stuff I don't want to waste a whole day traveling around. |

Where are you staying in Bangalore? I have been there a number of times and stayed at the Taj West End and The Leela Palace Kempinski.

We're staying at a bed and breakfast, Laika Boutique. Highly rated on Trip Advisor and 250 reviewers all talk about the nice couple that runs it, chatting with guests and helping them around the city. I emailed him about our flight getting in at midnight and replied "don't worry, we'll have a car waiting for you."

The one thing about India, there are palaces EVERYWHERE. Kind of like castles in Europe. I've forgotten the name, but in South India there are some amazing temple complexes.
Sorry, it's been 25 years since I lived there and I was in the Northwest.

Oh, and one of the most amazing evenings I had was being over at the main project manager's house. He walked us through many of the Hindu traditions with both the spiritual and the practical benefits.

Advice from a friend from the Bangalore area:
Do not offer anyone anything with your left hand. Drink only bottled or boiled water. Eat no cut fruit. Hope you like crowds! Best Les

Cut fruit... because of being rinsed in the water, or something else?
A lot of the reviews I've read about the B&B we're staying at specifically mention the fresh fruit they serve. Should I worry about fruit eaten at their house too? |

From what you have mentioned about the B&B... I would think cut fruit will be fine there.. Its on the street where you should be wary...

I may add I have some cred here...
I have eaten street food in Bangkok,Beijing, Tianjin, Hefie, Chengdu,Cairo,Cancun,Lima,Ica, SanJose, Tamarindo, Merida, Mexico City, Nassau, Tel Aviv, New York, Toronto, San Francisco, etc... apparently I have a digestive system that repels all attacks from suspect food LOL

In my youth, in a darkened Mumbai nightclub I once had a fruit salad.
That should have been safe. Right? Cook apparently had a sense of humour as it was laced with screaming hot small green chilis. |

While we have not stayed in Bangalore, the Taj and Leela are both excellent chains. We stay at the Leela in New Delhi at least once a year.

The Leela in Delhi is nice as well. I also reccomend the Westin in Hyderabad, which of all the larger cities is my favorite so far.
