Question Shower - glass door Vs curtain

When we installed the bathroom about ten years ago (when I was still single) we got all fancy and installed sliding glass doors bathroom tub/shower.

Fast forward to three years ago I got married... we have stayed in a few hotels that have those shower curtains that bow out... wife is all "oh... lets get one of those!"

All the nicer homes I have been in have glass doors on the shower, therefore I prefer the glass doors.

Wifes argument is:
A) The glass gets spots on it that she has to clean with a squeegee (not a problem when I was a bachelor)
B) When we shower together we bump into each other (we are all wet and naked and rubbing up against each other... I don't see a problem here! ).

What do you have in your shower (besides midgets )

The curved rods are great! If an actual tub....I prefer a curtain for the reasons indicated... Plus you can change/replace them easily if stained or if your decorating style need a refresh.

If a walk in shower, i prefe a glass or a snail design where no curtain is required.

I like the snail thing too... but this is the tub/shower combo... in a perfect world I would have a bathroom the size of my bedroom with open showers... and I would also be driving a 997 turbo instead of a Miata.

Are there no curved track doors which can give you the room you want?

A squeegee over the glass does wonders for the spots (depending of course on the hardness of your water supply)

I find myself wondering, at times, why I even put a tub.

Have fun.

Are we talking this type of sliding door shower/tub combo?

Personally I hate them. Hate the way the look, hate the way they work, hate to clean them especially the tracks.

My master bath is a snake design that we actually threw a curtain on just for colder days to keep the draft down, otherwise open.

Kids baths and guest bath are curtains.

I want to change my vote for glass if it's this type of door, I hate these as well.

Hey Scott,

I've always preferred shower curtains and that's what I have in my 2 bathrooms.

But most of the year I use my outside shower - no curtain - no doors - no water spots to wipe up - great way to start and end a day.....

Yes, that is what we have... in my previous life as a bachelor I just never bothered to clean it (short of a weekly spritz with windex).

Baz,

Yes, when in Hawaii I shower outdoors... but not practical around these parts.

I don't like curtains because they always cling to me in the shower. The furnace or the a/c kicks on and blows the curtain on me. Had them in every apartment in college and hated them. Women like them because they are fashionable. Leaches were once fashionable too...doesn't mean they were good.

For safety reasons glass doors seem to make more sense to me. They give you something to hold on to getting out of the tub. Also a good place to hang wet or dry towels. So you have to clean them. So you have fewer choices in style and design. I still prefer glass over being on my a$$.

Curtains. Glass doors make the entire bathroom look smaller and more cramped.

Clingy curtain problem? Get under the shower head and make sure you're intercepting as much water as possible. That's what it's there for! The curtain gets "sucked in" to the shower due to the low pressure area generated by zillions of moving water droplets. (no joke: Why does the shower curtain move toward the water? : Scientific American ).

Most quality liners have magnets at the bottom. The curved rod really helps keep the curtain away from your body.

There was a thread about the curved shower rods a couple of weeks back. We have three bathrooms and three showers. The main bathroom also has a tub with those fancy water & air jets. It's mostly for my wife. One shower is a walk in, and the other two have curved shower rods, which we really like. Personally I'd never need a tub.

Looks like the wife is going to win with shower curtains, I think the glass doors look more classy but what do I know.

And as you more sensitive guys have noted curtains allow you to change the color at will.

Problem is there is a short wall of glass block connecting the shower opening, gotta figure out how to reinforce that.

Curtains. If the poll users had to clean them ALL the time, they would vote curtains as well.

Doors look much nicer. Takes 40 seconds a day to clean. Not a big deal.

Walk in shower is where it's at though.

Walk-in shower with glass doors. Curtains belong in apartments.
