Looking For Room In NYC From Jan '14

I'm trying to do a little advance work on this -

A close friend of ours may need to find a room in NYC starting Jan '14, for a few months. She is a 22 y/o French university student, currently in Paris, who is applying for internships in photographer and artist management in New York. She doesn't have one yet, but would be a perfect intern - fluent in English, has lived in the US, is already doing that sort of work in Paris while in school - so I think her odds of finding something are pretty good, and I'm thinking ahead to trying to help her find a place to live.

Anyone have any leads?

Craigslist and the other usual sources of rentals. She will be one of tens of thousands of young people in NYC that are crammed into lofts and apartments together. She can expect to pay $1500 a month to live on a couch in Brooklyn. That's the reality, I've never known anyone in NYC that has an extra room for a friend, much less a stranger.

Unless of course you know some Russian billionaires with apartments laying around in NY. Now would be the time to hit them up.

My coworker recently moved out to chicago and I believe she hasn't filled her apartment yet, a sublease might fit the bill. I'll inquire.

Yo Speed, first off, don't rag on Brooklyn. I happen to live in a very nice area 15 mins out of lower Manhattan. $1,500 would not even get you a couch, haha

JYL, with that said, I believe in karma and helping people when you can. Please PM me as I do not want to give the Pelicans to much ammo for taking cheap shots. I might be able to help out.

Wow. We've checked into apartments in nice neighborhoods in Manhattan and it seems like $2500-$3000 will get you a pretty nice 1 BR. $1500 for a couch in Brooklyn? Really?
