Slipsies.
Didn't see the game, but I ran across the "analysis" on Sportscenter while channel surfing and one of the guys said if you're gonna administer a hit, you better be able to deliver it somewhere a lot safer than that. Sounded about right to me.

Loks to me like that pitch got away from him based on his reaction.
I think it was an accident. BTDT ![]() |

What a shock. Some LA hoser issuing a fly-by, half-assed jab. You're just toeing the hometown line.
It's no secret Gibson manages the game the right way. And that's just not my opinion. If the uniforms were reversed for every single player and the same thing happened, LA would be screaming for heads to roll. But when it's LA doing bush stuff, it just them reacting? ![]() Puig can't hit high and inside ( but he will before long, he'll adjust and be fine, great players do ) and that pitch just got away. Look at his other at-bats missing high and up. Btw, Puig has only been up for a week. He's simply not used to MLB game speed. I'm not saying he's at fault at all but he'll adapt and will be able to avoid pitch that a little better. It's a game of inches. LA is pissed because they're in the gutter with a massive payroll and not producing. I suspect suspensions are coming for some. Maybe on both sides but probably just Dodgers.

In chronological order...
Ross, Az ( accidental ) Puig, LA ( accidental ) Montero, Az ( payback? ) Greinke, LA ( payback? ) Ellis, LA ( accidental ) This goes back nearly 2 years when LA tried to hit Parra and missed. In the same at-bat, Parra then hit a home run and watched it a little too long for LA. Next day starting pitcher Kershaw was yelling from the dugout "I'll see you tomorrow." and the next day, hit Parra. Kershaw was ejected but it's never been over. Add to that, Az is on a roll beating LA as of late. So, LA is on edge anyway.

Another point, the gif Joe posted shows quite the bounce or deflection of the ball.
That's from the catcher's mitt, not Puig's face. Make no mistake, Puig took a shot to the face/tip of the nose/cheek area and that's scary as hell. I was watching when it happened and I feared the worst. But the replays show the bounce is from the mitt. My point? It could have been way, way worse and I think Puig is great for the game and I want to see him do well for a long, long time. However, don't let the gif be the only source of info for this impact. It wasn't as bad as it implies. MLB says they're still reviewing the incident, so no suspensions today. I'm sure several are coming. Puig is not in the lineup for today's game due to a strained shoulder. No word on how that happened. I also heard Puig's call-up was a point of concern to the Dodgers. Apparently, he's a wild card, a "maniac" to quote a sports writer that covers the Dodgers. If that's the case, I truly hope he levels out and stays. I'm a fan of the game first, Az Diamondbacks second.
