Coming to Michigan!

I will be coming to Traverse City MI on the last week of June. My wife will be coming with me. We are driving my 911.

I have two open nights for dinner. Saturday the 22nd and Thursday the 27th.

We are not into high brow fancy eating, but we like good food. Someplace that jeans and a polo shirt will be OK. We will NOT be getting dressed up. There is enough of that at the banquets.

We would love to meet up with any Pelicans and share a meal at a local place. We are open to suggestions. I will even buy your first beer!

Just PM me and we can exchange phone numbers.

I'll be there but I'm not sure what "She who must be kept happy" has signed us up for.

We'll be bringing the 968.

Yea, I have one of those seat accessories as well.

We are doing a tour every day. I never have understood the "fun" of a rally.

I can't compete in the concourse with a car that is actually driven in the rain

The autocross is pointless for my class. All the top competitors are on super sticky autocross rubber. I simply will not spend thousands of dollars to buy a set of rims and tires and have them shipped round trip just to have a chance at the $50 autocross trophy. My all season tires just can't compete with autocross rubber. They really need a showroom stock class but it does not exist for "older" 911s.

We do enjoy the entire event, we just have more fun on the tours than competing in events that I can't have a fair chance in.

Next year should be fun out in California again. It is a long assed drive though.

Glen,

You can pretty much wear whatever you want whenever you go at whatever restaurant you go to in Traverse City. Jeans and casual shirt are pretty much de rigeur-especially in the summer. Traverse is quickly becoming known as a premeir foodie town and there are bazillions of restaurants to check out. Saturday night just about every decent or better restaurant is packed. There are numerous great restaurants outside of town (very driveable distances-up to an hour) indoor, outdoor, on the water, in boats, hotels, motels, bistros, cafes, 5-star, 0-star, and the occasional movie star.

Even for only 1 free beer, I'll meet up with you. Problem is there's only about 800 (exaggeration-really only about 700) micro-breweries and even at least one neato weeski distillery available for tours and tastings.

Will PM you. Calendar marked.

Sounds great Crowbob. PM sent.

A brewery would be perfect.

I have another question. Once I arrive on Saturday where do I go to buy a 6-pack of beer? In most states it is the corner gas station. In some states like PA it is the beer store, some states like GA it is the liquor store. Does the grocery store sell beer in MI?

And I would prefer to buy cold beer. I will be staying at the Turtle Creek hotel in Williamsburg.

Most gas stations have beer. Most grocery stores will have beer, wine and liquor.

Cool. That makes things sooooo much easier. How about Sunday beer sales? I remember some states deciding I don't get to buy beer on a Sunday.

Traverse is gorgeous but the summer traffic not the most fun in Michigan. Not sure of the date of the Hagerty Family Show but there's always some great car stuff. Love to meet you, but I'll be stuck a couple continents away until maybe later in July. I really miss Michigan summers. BTW, off the main highways there's lots of legal fun in the twisties with great scenery from Torch Lake to Walloon Lake. Beyond is great as well, but the tunnel of trees is fouled by traffic up to Sturgeon Bay.

Used to be alcohol could only be sold after Noon on Sundays, but that's changed recently. No sales from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. any day, but otherwise, you can buy and drink all you want.

Thanks. On one of my long trips I pulled into town at 6:00 PM and wanted a frosty wheat pop to cool off with as I washed my car and got settled. They told me no beer sales until Monday. I don't remember which state that was.

I could go to the hotel bar and buy a beer for six bucks but no beer sales at the store.
