I have a Black and Decker with a lithium battery and I'm pleased with it. It does what I need it to do.

This is the one I've been using over the last 3 years. Works great, holds its charge and has a battery indicator light. Doubt I will ever go back to gas for just trimming around the house. So easy even the wife gets it out to use.

I can tell you to NOT get Ryobi, it lasted two years then wouldn't hold a charge.

Timely thread. My Ryobi gas trimmer is about 6 years old and is giving up the ghost. Amazon and HD have a 24 Volt model of the one Toro Rot911 posted for only $10 more. I'm gonna spring for one.

see if Cons. Reports has tested them recently
a lot nicer than effing with a cord, or with Et-OH fuel from last year... Quieter, etc. |

I've seen these things but assumed they were underpowered. What size line do you run? Do they have enough power to replace a gas unit?

We have a Black and Decker that came with two lithium batteries. 12" cut and I think the line is .065 and it does pretty well for us. Not quite enough to do the yards where we are at now, bit would do the all the trimming at our old house on one battery. I like the automatic feed as well.
They don't cut as well as gas but our 11 year old daughter can handle them fine and we don't have to worry about gas or trying to get it started for her. Does regular grass just fine.

great for your lawn; not adequate for commercial use or your back 40

I was just going to say this same thing. The back 40 is way out there, and we take a Kubota RTV to get there. I use an Echo or Stihl trimmer, depending on who's with me, and we go through probably 6 to 8 spools of string from start to finish. If we didn't spray, the number would be double or triple that. A battery powered anything is a funny joke to me.

Battery powered anythings will soon not be funny jokes - the trimmers have gotten a lot better in just a few years
I'm now using a batt. mower - but don't own a farm... |

I bought a WORX 24 v battery lawn mower 3 years ago and have subjected it twice a week cutting at my own home, as well as a commercial plaza property. I chose it because it is light, very manouverable, and folds neatly into the back of my SUV.
The battery is still in great shape and holds a charge. The instructions state to keep the blade sharp (so it doesn't have to work too hard, obviously doesn't apply to trimmers). Also, in the winter, bring the battery inside and charge it once a month. Store it unplugged. Last week I cut the grass and got caught in a downpour and kept cutting. I'm glad to say I did not get electrocuted ![]()

Curious if the battery weed whackers have a speed trigger or is it only an on-off switch.

have a battery powered black and decker. does the job well enough. main complaint is that it isn't long enough. at 6-6'1 i'm always hunched over when using it.

I'd love it if all the neighbors and landscape guys used these and battery blowers. Life would be quiet.
