Mercedes shareholders want out of F1

Being reported today on some sites. Could see that coming. Too Bad for Ham and Nico and all team members if true.

Crazy to be thinking that now. They made the decision to get back into the sport at that level. Which is a long term commitment that is just now coming to fruition, silly to abandon the effort now that it is starting to pay off with some good results and the attention that comes with it.

If the FIA rules against them and/or sanctions them because of this so-called "testgate" mess, they'll be gone so fast you won't even know they were there. The board has been making dissatisfied noises for some time now, so this will provide an excellent excuse for them to pull the plug. Which most likely means, of course, that the team will be for sale again. Let's see, first it was BAT, then Honda, then Braun, then M-Bz, and then - stay tuned.

It can take years and several millions of dollars to win in F1. Look what Toyota has spent to try and win in F1 (and Le Mans) with not much to show for it. It's a huge gamble, big money doesn't always bring in the results.

I think the shareholders get tired of the money going out the door with nothing to show for it and say: "Enough!".

If I was a shareholder (I wish) and not a race fan, I'd feel the same way.

I did some googling, but I can't figure out exactly what happened in this so-called "testgate"

Possibly illegal mid-season tire testing.
