MS Office on iPhone

MS just released Office for the iPhone...

- I don't get it - what are they thinking?

Division responsible for MS Office finally prevailed over the MS Windows division?

So do you only get it if you have Office 365 subscription?

I just use OfficePro on the ipad, just too bad it's a Google product.

Probably not for 'creating' a document, but if you need to edit on the fly, it could prove very useful.

Yes, this.

I use iWork on my Mac, iPad and iPhone and the "edit & send wherever" capability is very useful. Ditto OpenOffice (for MS Office format stuff).

Microsoft has made a Mac version of Office for quite a while (I keep a version on my laptop but seldom use it since OpenOffice handles those documents so well) but it's out there if you want it.

I use Apple's Pages word processor on my iPad - allows me to convert & send the file as an MS-Word formatted doc.

Excell was released first for Mac, been on the Mac OS longer than Windows.

Yes, but iOS is for iPad (and mini) too. Plenty of office work can be done pretty effectively on those platforms (and Android tablets, too) without having to lug around a laptop.
