How many times have you called the police to report something?

Some of the news discussion regarding George Zimmerman has been about how many times in the past he called the police. Prosecution says he's a wannabe. Defense says he's a concerned citizen.

Made me think... I probably end up calling the police non-emergency number once or twice every few years. Don't think of my self as a wannabe or a vigilante. Just figure it's better safe than sorry to call in stuff when it crosses a certain line.

Last year we saw some teenage boys climbing on top of the playground sunshade at the park next to my house - it's about 20 ft off the ground and was destroyed a year earlier.

Couple of years ago my wife saw a guy checking car doors in a shopping center parking lot. After I saw him inside a car digging through the glove box I did call 911. He was arrested.

Last time was just a couple of weeks ago when I followed signs to an indoor garage sale and the house was trashed. Graffiti like paint inside, holes in the walls, garage door rollers removed, comments from the guy holding the sale to the young boy who was with him about "getting back at her."

At what point do you pick up the phone to call the police?

I might average a call every other year. Last one was a few mos. ago when that lady was casing houses for future burglary. Before that was a car wreck I witness in my rearview mirror, but couldn't turn around on that divided road to go back and offer assistance. Then I had that pedestrian claim I hit her. Called 911 for her. A few years earlier I had a knife pulled on me. Cops couldn't have cared less except in the car accident cases.

Twice for me.

I was on my nightly walk and a kid in a car threw a rock at me (he missed). You may think that was trivial but I considered it dangerous and so did the cops.
As it turns out they caught them later that night. They were hooning in their car and got pulled over. The car matched the description I gave and the kid confessed to throwing rocks after the cops talked to him in the station.

Another time a Meat head and his girl friend came to my door late at night accusing me of calling the cops about the noise from a party across the road.

Twice, once a burglary of a law firm across the street 30+ years ago , another on a B and E on my next door neighbors house about 20 years ago.

I make it a point not to be a rat.

However......if I ever saw something that was really over the top (especially an assault, etc.) I wouldn't hesitate to get involved to whatever extent I felt warranted.

I have had to report thefts a few times. My stuff that was pilfered.

A few times a year when an azzhat goes thru my fence. A few times a year when witnessing a bad auto accident

A bunch. I had a neighbor that was selling drugs. I live on a culdesac and the owner (who's now in jail awaiting trial) rented it to some ****bags. The cops said to keep calling to establish a pattern. Cops showing up at their door finally convinced them to move.

Today?

Rarely, but I'm not shy about it. If something looks off, I call. We had some crazy SOB walking down our street trying to stop cars. He was clearly demented. 911 call. I was duly impress with the police response. 2 minutes and 2 cars came in hot.

This isn't a fair question, as I would think most on this board live in a safer community than were Zimmerman was, it wasn't a Country Club gated community, but a gated because it isn't a good area, lots of drugs, crime, ect.
In an area like that, where there is lots of crime, there will be more calls to the Police..

While, very tame compared to many places in the Country, it aint no Country Club..

More than most of you above. I get P.Oed at road ragers and call them in. Best one I called got nailed for reckless in a work zone. He was packing heat as well. I wrote a complaint on that.

No fair or not fair. Just curious about the numbers. Would be great if this didn't get PARFified.

Only once in my life. Police response was much better than expected.

I called them once to report my car had JUST BEEN STOLEN, it was driving away, they asked me how much I owed on it, I said nothing, it's mine, it's going down PCH in Huntington Beach, they said they would get right on it. Two weeks later they found it in Pacoima, being driven around with no front seats, no radio, they were redded up and ran it into a freeway overpass. They got off because they said through an interpretur they found it in Pacoima and were just driving it around. I didn't take it back, I got high book for it.

At least nine times to report abuse. At times we first went there.

Wasn't trying to parf it, just pointing out that most of us don't live in areas were we need to call the police alot. Course, one of my neighbors went crazy last year (baker acted at least 10 times now:eek:) She burned her house down, she walks into peoples homes, threatened to burn down other neighbors homes, steals stuff out of peoples yards, ect, even got arrested walking down a main road butt naked, and trust me, that isn't a sight anyone needs to see (and no, I didn't see it, one of the local policeman told me about it. Well, I've had to call a few times on her, as have pretty much everyone one in the community. People tried to help her, but she burned those bridges, and the police suggested we call if she is trespassing. It really is sad, as she use t be a normal person, good job, nice home, paid for, but she just snapped:( Like others, I'm not a snitch, but twice, she has almost been shot, for being were she wasn't suppose to be (in one ladies Truck, and walks into to peoples hones & makes her self at home) the last time she was arrested was for trying to tear down someones wooden fence/.:(

I called the police dispatch line just a few days ago to report an unsafe vehicle.
It was a honda civic, lowered and all sorts of crap......the problem was that every time he hit even a minor road imperfection, the fenders would rub the tires, producing a large amount of smoke.

They caught up to him......after he'd had a flat and slammed it into a ditch.
