Don't leave home without it!....lesson learned the hard way today!
A beautiful day today here in southern Alberta, so I thought I'd take a quick drive in the SC before heading to the office. I'm only going down the road a bit.....maybe 10 Km round trip....do I need the radar detector? Ah, probably not....I'm not going out for long. Well, I got nabbed!!!
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1372369924.jpg This LEO was extremely well concealed. He clocked me at 86 Km/hr in a 60 zone = $161.00! My first ticket in almost 8 years...argggh! NOTE TO SELF: DON'T BE A LAZY AZZ!....ALWAYS TAKE ALONG THE ESCORT WHEN GOING OUT FOR A DRIVE IN ANY OF YOUR VEHICLES!!! |
Didja at least call him dudley do-right?
|
I grab my V1 even if I am driving my old pick up.
|
Never do, that would be like walking out the door without pants !
|
radar on a gravel road? Do they get many rallye drivers there?
|
I use my Passport all the time and in your situation, I would bet it wouldn't of helped. Unless he is using X band from the 70's. Even when I am on the highway, if I don't have some cars in front, I cut it back.

Don't leave home with it. They are illegal here to have in a motor vehicle. You can buy them but if your caught with one in a vehicle it is a $500 fine. :)
If you are traveling thru MB they will stop you and if you are nice they will let you turn it off. Signs are on the highways when you enter the province telling you that they are illegal. |

I haven't used a radar detector in probably 20 years....have only had one ticket in a rental car.....
Simple solution.......do the speed limit, go fast when you know its clear for short bursts...... |
Officer, have you been eating donuts?
You're eyes looked glazed.... |
OR... You could have obeyed the speed limit.
|
$161!!!! Pffft!!!! That is lunch money!
|
Pfffh,
Radar detectors are for pansies, it's a cat and mouse game, and I haven't had a ticket in 10 years (well, green light cameras don't count) Geez you'd think the cops would be too busy at Tim's now they have green light cameras making millions for them. :D |

While I'm not a nut-job, wreckless driver, I do, on occasion, when it's safe, surpass the speed limit. The road I was on (Stealthn, you obviously know where and have driven on Old Banff Coach Road in Springbank) was clear of traffic and in good dry condition. This begs the question....do you fellow Pelicans....Peter you included... ALWAYS obey the speed limit? Is there a thread on PPOT that deals with this topic? Cheers! Alex |
That's still within city limit? On the eastern side of the city?
I found most people drive the speed limit in Calgary. We were there for 3 weeks last summer and most were very polite drivers. Down here, when the freeway opens up, we are doing 10-15 over. |
Alex - that sucks! I hate radar traps! What a waste of tax dollars!!!!!!!
That said - I'm like those who put the radar detector down years ago. I drive fast and exceed the speed limits every day but - am very careful about where I speed and how much over I go. It truly is a cat and mouse game. GREAT shot of the Targa, BTW! :) |

That was it for me... So I stick to the speed limit even if it annoys other drivers. I've actually made it into a game now. I see how close and for how long I can sit precisely on the speed limit. My record so far is 4 minutes 33 seconds. It's harder than you may think. For spirited driving I go to our local track at Mallala. Mallala - Motor Sport Park - Mallala Motor Sport Park |
Don't feel bad. I was nabbed first time in 13 yrs by drone at Utah/Colorado border. Same amount of money but I was in, and here is the embarrassing part, a Prius. 88mph in a 75.
