Plastic/Rubber Garage Floor Tiles

Anyone using some variety of these? I've delayed applying an epoxy floor because I'm not very confident in durability, especially using one of the DIY kits. The 12x12 or 18x18 garage floor tiles are tempting because they look good and are easy to DIY. The only potential issue that I see is impact resistance, but I suppose you just replace one if it breaks. They are also on the pricey side.

Anyone using some variety of this flooring? If so, what kind is it and how do you like it?

Matt - go over to GargageJournal forum - they have a segment devoted to flooring. Several floor finish company representatives are members - as well as Race Deck. Most even offer discounts to forum members - and/or free shipping.

I've got these:

Garage floor tiles, Garage flooring, Garage floor covering

One problem i see, I don't find the exact ones offered anymore, so once my stash of extras is gone that will probably be the end - I have the hard plastic but in a "coin" pattern, not diamond plate.

Cuppla things to consider-

•They'll take a floor jack, but sometimes you'll notice as you're lifting that one of the wheel edges is on a soft spot. Move it slightly, so it's on a rib and you'll be happy. (Hard to describe, but obvious in practice)

•You really need to put down an underlay. I used some stuff I got free at work that is very similar to the underlay for floating wood floors. Without an underlay, these have an annoying click-clop while you walk across them. Underlay makes a world of difference.

•You can see that I am protecting the floor from jackstand legs by bolting some stuff to the bottom.

I've had good luck with the wearability; only had to replace a few, but I don't work on my car eight hours a day. For occasional use, they're great, they clean up easy and they look good.

i have motofloor in my garage. like it a lot. cleaner, reflects more light and easier to work on that concrete. the white tiles are hard to keep clean. they might scratch, but don't break.

I'm tempted.

Here's a link showing $180 but in-store was less...as I recall...also, a couple of videos.

The roll stuff is interesting, and way cheaper than the tiles. I wonder how that would do with jacks and jack stands?

I would place a cleat under anything like a jack/jack stand.
Like plywood or sheet steel, for example.

Several years ago I powerwashed and acid etched my old 2 car garage floor then applied an epoxy floor kit from a home improvement store. We avoided parking on it for two weeks but when we did, my daughters VW beetle started taking spots of the paint of with hot tires. I ended up just buying the PVC ribbed mats from Menards to park the cars on. They have held up well and the ribs keep slush/water of the floor. My 924S leaks oil and the mat seems to no be affected. They are easy to scrub clean with soapy water and a push broom I do no work in this attached garage so I have no clue how they would fair. The epoxy areas of the floor that are not covered still look great but they only ee foot traffic.

I would love to epoxy my hangar/workshop floor, but I would only have it professionally done after seeing how poorly the garage epoxy held up to hot tires. It would cost a fortune to do an area the size of my shop and I am a cheap SOB so I doubt it will ever happen.

For an average sized garage that I intended to work in, I would likely consider buying a boatload of large ceramic tile on sale somewhere similar to what Jack did.

If its going to be a real working garage, why not just clean it and seal it? Easier to sweep and wipe up. Spend the extra money on go fast goodies.

Just sold our house and downsizing to a much smaller house and unfortunately....smaller garage. It will not be a real "working garage" since my engine rebuilding-restoring-fixing everything days are over.
Seriously thinking laying these down.....

My garage is old and oily enough that it would take a lot of effort to get the floor clean. I have to admit that I also just like the look of an epoxy or tile floor, and a lighter color really helps brighten the room.

I've done a transmission pull on an S10 pickup on my back on a rubber floor, it was a very, very, nice. Almost wanted to take a nap at one point, and it was also nice and warm.

I've got racedeck in my workshop. Looks good, easy to install and so far holding up well.

I have a roll of the ribbed stuff. I use it inside my travel trailer you hauler so oil etc doesn't stain the floor. It's pretty easy to clean, but can be painful to walk on barefoot.

I have Race Deck in a black/white checkerboard pattern; it was pretty expensive, but did it when I built the garage, so added it to the home equity loan, otherwise I think I would have a hard time spending that much again. It was amazing how nice the garage started looking while I was installing it, made a huge difference in how the garage looked; I had a new garage with clean concrete and everything drywalled and painted white, but the floor made the place beautiful. I used a table saw and jig saw to get the edges to fit perfect.

Couple things, first it does scratch pretty easy, but doesn't change the look much; it cleans up easy enough; the heat from the 911 causes the floor to buckle when I first pull in, but it goes back flat when cool; it also shifts a little when driving on it(1/2" or so, goes back when driving out.) I always put boards under jack stands, so don't know if they would crack otherwise.

Best,
Rutager

I think I need to fix my concrete floor first of it's cracks and uneven spots before I try anything like these tiles. I have looked into a checkerboard style floor and didn't really want to spend $500 plus underlayment, and concrete fix cost.
