Weird Router issue - Netgear

So last night, the network went down at the office. I noticed around 10:30. I head over and re-boot the router, since I can't access it via the HTML interface.

It starts working. I can access the HTML interface. Then the HTML interface quits. I can't change pages. The router continues working for a while, including VPN.

By morning, dead again. Head into the office for an early morning shipment (6:30AM) and go to work on the router.

Reboot and it is up again, but the interface freezes again after a couple of minutes.

Reboot and immediately go to the firmware. Download my configuration. Upload a fresh copy of the firmware. reboot.

Everything is working. Still working 4 hours later. Does this sound like my EEPROM for the firmware is going bad? Netgear has a lifetime hardware warranty. But for me to exercise this, I need to buy another router, because I can't operate my office without it.

Any ideas?

From your computer try `telnet ip_address_of _router 80` (http) and `telnet ip_address_of _router 443` (https) (eg; telnet 192.168.1.1 80) This should tell you if the web server is running if you get a connection.

If you dont have perf monitoring tools on the wan side, disconnect the wan interface and try to access the box. Idea is to determine if the issue is your box or something upstream causing your box to freak out.

Hey there James, thanks for supplying me with a note for my current business systems class about how important something small can be. In week 3 we do some very lively discussions about why to have a "spare" or redundant hardware.

If it were me, I would by a second router immediately and depending on how badly the business needs the router, possibly even two and send this one back for repairs.
I would use one, keep one connected, but turned off until the 1st one has an issue.
I would not use the repaired one again unless the spare went down and only as a last resort. I do this at home and since the school work is pretty important I do not want to have no communications.

This is my small office. I also have a Wifi router being used as only an access point. I could bring that into service and send wired router for repairs, but I lose my VPN.

Eventually, I am setting up a third office. So I'm going to need another router at some point...
