$273.00 oil change?

Ok, so I bought 3 gallons Redline 5/50, a redline injector cleaner one mahle filter and one mann filter (keep in the garage for the next change, my wrench says its a better choice than the mahle....I don't know)......and this comes out to $273.00 ... nuts, just nuts.
This is my first try with the redline stuff, anybody have any reviews on it?
What I've seen is pretty impressive, but I am having a tough time finding the ppm of zinc on this product. Says for use in high performance including flat tappet engines on the sales literature but no mention of the zinc content.
I AM NOT TRYING TO START ANOTHER "BEST OIL THREAD"!!!! Was just surprised at the cost and am wondering if the brain trust here has had any experience with Red Line Oils?

I used to have my oil changes done at the indy garage - cost $300 with filter and Mobil 1 synthetic oil ( 2001 Boxster). Now I do it myself incl. filter and oil $100. I cannot really find reduced price deals on Mobil 1 Synth. in my part of the world. Don't know anything about other oils. For me bad carma to switch oils.

They have a heck of a marketing team. Other than that, don't know much.

Most "SN" based oils (latest test certification) have enough ZDDP in them. This breaks down in time, so you may start with 1200 ppm but you won't have that same number when you change it. What car is the oil for?? Most engines built after the late 60's are not flat tappet camshaft engines.

So don't change it and wait for the 15k engine rebuild invoice. Oil changes are cheap insurance.

We are in the same camp here! I was just a little surprised at the cost and was wondering if I will see the value long term servicing the old girl with such a premium formula? Anyways, the oil change is done....why can't I ever find any of my filter wrenches when I need them? Had to use the old Tie Strap method!

I don't know what Red Line costs, but I have Motul in the Boxster. That's some expensive oil.

When I had the 914-6 race car I would change the oil after every race, usually about 12 QTs of 15-50 Mobile 1 and a filter from a Porsche 930 (forget what model number). Used to buy the filters in cases of 12 from an import wholesale place in San Diego and get the oil in those 5 QT jugs at Walmart when on special. I would load up and go to all the area stores and at one time had over 20 of those big jugs! It goes fast.

Think that's expensive? Try Castrol 10W60 TWS Synthetic Oil. It's the only oil approved for BMW 'M' engines and costs AU$110.00 for 5lt's.

It's a lot of mkt'ng - except for base oil they all use the same add pacs from one of 3 companies - then it comes down to the concentration.

Yes, and the base oil is significantly different for Red Line, isn't it ?

Bottom line is that it is good oil, but expensive. It has the additive package we need in our cars, so you can use it without worry.

If you want cheap oil, go with something like Valvoline VR1 racing. And be prepared to be put down by someone here no matter what oil you use.

That is the exact amount I found on a STACK of receipts in the glovebox of my new-to-me Cayenne.

First thing I said to the wife, "we won't be getting the oil changed at _____!"

UPDATE, the Redline oil is doing neat things.....My oil pressure stays stable at all temp ranges, and my oil temps are down significantly! This could just be me but it also seems like the engine is somewhat more "free" than before...if that makes sense, like it can actually rev up a little quicker than it used to....noticed it during a double clutch down shift.
And it smells better, stays cleaner....and picks up more chicks!!!!
(the last statement is completely false but I choose to stand behind it anyway!!! )

I bought some Motul by mail last year. Had to call some middleman in CA. She talked like I was killing my 993 by using Mobil 1 15/50 all these years. The next day the Motul got delivered. I put it in the bike (R1200GS) and 993. Honestly, both engines seemed to run a little quieter than before. But damn, it was expensive. I'm back to Mobil 1 and it's fine. 993 barely burns a qt. per 3000 miles.

I just did a blend of Valvoline VR1 and regular 20W50 and it still came out close to $100.00

I was short an oil filter, tried this WIX brand. Nothing nasty I trust.

For some reason I want to drive in left hand circles now - NASCAR approved filter.
