Paul Bettany, the Doc in Master and Commander, was also superb in A Knight's Tale, a nice little rainy day film.

I need to get my man card laminated:cool:

IMHO one of the best performances was turned in by Max Pirkis (Octavian from HBO series Rome.)

Visually and audibly some of the best work on film in the last two decades.

I'll send you mine and maybe we can get a discount, HAHA! I love that movie!

I think Bettany is a great actor, very versatile and so far has not fallen into being typecast as a result of one dimensional performances.

Couldn't disagree more. I've read all 20, (& a half, Mr. O'Brien was writing a last book when he passed), books. I'm not a reader either. Yes they are VERY difficult to read as O'Brien used the language of the time period. I almost didn't get through the first one myself as I didn't understand what was being said. I purchased a companion book, a dictionary if you will of terms and meanings. Made the reading so much better.

The most interesting character is the good doctor. He's also a spy, some accusations of being a counter spy, and addicted to laudium. Well drugs period. If they went to Turkey he'd take hash back to the ship, Brazil bags full of coca. Oh also he is described as a very short, actually ugly man.

As far as the movie yup have seen it a dozen times maybe more. It covers a few of the books actually. The Galopycose Island part is from The Far Side of the World if I'm not mistaken and the weevil scene is from a different book also, I don't remeber which one. In the books the Surprise was chasing the USS Constitution not a French ship. Remember how a ships mate showed Aubrey the lines of the ship and the thickness of the planks? Old Iron Sides. Of course America can't be the bad guys in a movie!

I have a gicee of the the Surprise & another print of the cover of Treason's Harbour.

Great movie. I enjoyed it immensely. I have it on Blue Ray.

Probably one of his best movies. (Russell Crowe)

Definately one of Russel Crowe's best movies. I'd rate Romper-Stomper up there (rather brutal movie though), along with Gladiator. A Beautiful Mind was a great movie but I don't think it was a role that only he could have played.
I recently saw LeMis and didn't enjoy it (the movie or the acting).
